Oscar Grant's best friend shot dead in Hayward

The best friend of Oscar Grant who was there the night a BART police officer fatally shot the unarmed man was shot and killed at a Hayward gas station, authorities and friends said today.

Johntue Caldwell, 25, of Fremont was found behind the wheel of a car parked at the 76 gas station at West Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue at about 5:35 p.m. Friday, according to police and friends.

The victim had been sitting in the car when at someone walked up to the vehicle and fired several rounds, said Hayward police Lt. Roger Keener. The assailant fled and was not located after a search of the area.

The motive for the slaying was not known but police do not believe this was a random act, Keener said.

sarc- Like Grant, I’m certain this individual was too an upstanding citizen with a clean police record.

They should put an inpenetratable fence around Hayward, Richmond, and Oakland and let all these gangbangers and losers kill each other.

I thought at first this hit was by a member of a Death Squad. After reflection I doubt it, as apparently the “tap” was in the late afternoon, a not very smart thing to do.

His lawyer will see it through in order that justice is done in the case. . . and, eh, . . there's a little matter of a 30% fee of the settlement. He regret the death of his client, but business is business.
