Breast-feeding mother 'told to leave council headquarters because she would offend Muslim visitors'

Council says it has no obligation to provide facilities but then makes embarrassing U-turn

A mother was ordered not to breastfeed her baby in public because she was in a ‘multicultural building’.

Emma Mitchell, 32, was about to feed 19-week-old son Aaron when a receptionist at a town hall warned her to stop.

Last night Mrs Mitchell condemned council staff, saying it was time people recognised the law which allows nursing mothers to breastfeed in public.

‘It was just awful. I felt humiliated, intimidated and guilty through the whole thing,’ she said.

‘What I was doing was one of the most natural things a mother can do. You hear everywhere that breast is best for your baby, so why wouldn’t I be allowed to do that?’

The incident occurred when Mrs Mitchell, from Oldham, was in the Citizens’ Advice Bureau in Oldham Civic Centre.

The mother of two was asking about hiring a babysitter for her two boys when Aaron became hungry and started crying.

She then asked the receptionist if she could use a corner of the room to feed him, but she refused, saying it was a ‘multicultural building’.

.................

Under UK law, mothers can breastfeed in public under the provision of goods, services and facilities section of the Sexual Discrimination Act, whatever the age of the baby, in places such as council buildings, cafes, restaurants, libraries and doctors’ surgeries.

.................

Britain is terribly effed in the a. Their laws are based on a foundation of shifting nonsense progressive relativism. Christianity is all but gone in that country. That’s the saving grace of America.

You're exactly right. And since Western countries tend to settle to the bottom of the barrel where the lowest common denominator resides, it's dangerous to let them if for any reason, even because they're “fleeing oppression”.

It's obvious that they can rise up and throw the government out in their own country when they want a more strictly Moozlim gang of thugs, so if they really cared about a more open and free society they could rise up and have that just as easily. Let them stew in their own juices. They'll be killing one another by the millions soon enough why have any of them here where they might survive the consequences of their own cowardice?

Truth be known, I am too. I don’t like to see animals hurt or be killed needlessly.

It it’s a ‘multi-cultural building’ I should think that British law and customs should have at least equal standing.

That’s the bottom line.

I could be wrong, but I think women from multiple cultures breast-feed their children.

I think any moral person would agree with you (and me).

It's a bit disconcerting, though, that right-wing idealogues are almost always stereotyped as nature haters. It's as ridiculous as it is untrue. Vocationally and avocationally, I'm immersed in the birding world, and many of the best birders I know keep their politics to themselves. Which in this rarified world means that they are probably conservative. It's the loud-mouthed punk environmentalists which give nature-lovers a bad name.

But to your original point, there is most definitely a schism between the "green" energy fruitcakes who promote wind power and the Audubon Society. The Audubon Society is against wind power (and I applaud them for that).

HOWEVER, this organization also believes in man-made global warming and all the leftist implications that entails. Because of that, I will NEVER support the Audubon Society. And I urge all others to shun it too.

Kinda sad an organization like that can't be above typical left-wing propaganda, but that's the way it is.

That’s the really vexing thing here:if it’s true, as the mom says,
that her breastfeeding is protected by British law, apparently it’s
NOT protected by what I have to see as Islamic law-in-the-making/

NOT an official law, but one which can de facto be effected and enforced in effect by
nothing more than the Higher laws of “Multiculturalism”
Bit by bit, thus do the Islamics manage to trump British law with
their own unwritten law, what becomes in effect, the slow and steady
installation of their OWN customs WITHIN, and ON TOP OF our own.
This is how the Islamics intend to win, in a kind of “slow colonialism”.

If it had been me, I'd have told any offended Muslims to leave.

But that's just me.

I’d like to get directly in some idiot’s face.

Yea, with the "dangerous" end of a .45 ACP pistol. Stick it right up his nose, or other convenient orifice.

I have not seen my younger brother in 16 years, a couple of months ago our mother passed away and I had to fly down to CA for the services, turns out my brother is a Muslim loving Obama supporter.

I later was telling my father that because of such a disparity of our beliefs I would probably never see or talk to him ever again. Its not that we were warring against each other, its just that he owns a medical marijuana business, supports and voted for Obama and says Muslims are his very best friends, plus believes the Koran is better than the bible.

What he believes in is everything I refuse to accept or support.

Kinda reminds me of times during the historic Civil War, brothers were fighting each other over beliefs.

I can’t wait until the homosexual coalition decides to retaliate against muzzies for the anti gay statements that they frequently make. I would really have a hard time deciding which side to take in that battle.

You know, when I was breastfeeding, no one even knew it. Church, restaurant, it didn’t matter. Breastfeeding is very discreet. There are ways not to flaunt it. Why are these women flaunting it? Under the radar you can and should just be feeding your child, not making political statements with your child.

“At least they haven’t elected a Muslim their leader, yet.”

I think this occured in the UK. I’ve heard often that Prince Charles, next in line to the throne, is very interested/involved in the Muslim “faith”. Pretty scary stuff there.

It's a "multicultural center", therefore only Islamic culture matters.

Lowest common denominator?

Not so sure the US hasn’t elected a Muslim leader.

The US would be in the same boat as England if our government had encouraged immigration of these 7th Century knuckle draggers. Actually not that we haven’t, but they do generally need a visa and a boarding pass.

Thank God the Middle East is half a world away, and Christian Missionaries brought Christianity to Central America centuries ago. As bad as our illegal immigration problem is, I shudder to think what state this country would be in if Mexico was akin to say Indonesia.

A few months ago, my brother came to visit me in the hospital. I try to avoid political discussions with him, but he was the one (this time) that brought up the subject. He told me that Palin was a thorough-going moron and how impressed he was with VP Biden’s intellect. I raised my hand and said, “Ric, we can’t talk about this anymore. So, how’re your boys doing?” I went to his house for a couple of weekend visits last month and the subject was studiously avoided.

Mrs. Mitchell and the rest can get stuffed. I include those on this thread!

I'm unalterably opposed to breasts flopped out in public for a feeding like the talentless shrew Maggie Gyllenhaal has done with no effort towards discretion or cover.

Women today have it well within their power and ability to manage feedings in public without being so crass about it. Most of us, our mothers, our parent's mothers and those mothers before them managed fine.

Why must leftists drag us back towards the unWestern ways of living we abandoned centuries ago? It's always in the name of progress too!

Zero more birds die with windmills than without.
There is merely a shift in what traits are more successful for survival.
