Labor leaders may think they need to jealously guard the long-term, sweetheart contracts they got from the Daley administration. Emanuel says that's not the case he's looking for specific changes, he's not looking to fling the contracts wide open.
More likely, the labor leaders realize this is just the opening bid. The city is trying to close a $30 million shortfall for this year. The budget gap for next year looks some 20 times larger.

Here in NJ our last Dem governor turned on the state workers very soon after they helped elect them; there was simply no money left, and he rightly assumed that they had no place else to go. He lost his job to our Governor Christie, who openly admitted that he would do the same thing his predecessor had done.
If the people really want a liberal, they will pick the full-fat liberal Democrat over the part-skim RINO.
It works the other way when the people really want a conservative.
Unions favor layoffs. It’s their safety valve to preserve the status quo.
People know when they’ll get a spineless “0”; anyone the “media” portrays as moderate works for Satan. Thankfully, we have more & more Muslims here in NJ that know Satan when they see him; they are the salvation of Christianity (how many imams have come out in support of abortion or “gay marriage”?)
