The House Ethics Committee announced Friday it had voted to reauthorize an investigation into the fallout from allegations former Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) sexually harassed a male staffer.
The committee voted Thursday to reauthorize an investigative subcommittee, which it had originally convened last Congress.
Rep. Jo Bonner (R-Ala.) will serve as chairman of the subcommittee and Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) will serve as ranking member, according to a statement.
Reps. Michael Conaway (R-Texas) and Ben Chandler (D-Ky.) will also serve on the investigative panel.
All four served on the original investigative panel.
Massa announced his resignation on March 8, 2010, during the 111th Congress.
Three days later, then-Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) introduced a measure demanding the committee issue a final report on the scandal by June 30, 2010.
The Hill reported in late June of this year that the Ethics Committee still has not issued its findings on Massa.
Boehner had demanded such information after media reports indicated that staff with then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and then-Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) might have known of Massas troubles far in advance of his resignation and tried to deal with the issue behind closed doors. Hoyer's office has said repeatedly that his staff notified the committee immediately about the Massa allegations.
The Ethics Committee, at that time, formed an investigative subcommittee to look into the issue and interviewed Pelosi and Hoyer.

Will Barney Frank be involved in the probe?
Why are they investigating a guy who has already resigned, when there are so many miscreants who are still seated that need investigation?
It looks to me like it’s because of a possible coverup by Pelosi and/or Hoyer.

Barney will make sure the thrust of the investigation gets deep to the root.
That's really got to be looked into in this case because, if it's true, some staff discipline is needed and I don't mean a little light caning in the House steam bath.
If Massa was set up to be run off by the gay crowd on Capitol HIll that has to be known, and an end put to their employment.
Barney Frank is capable of getting to the bottom of things, providing he does not get too down in the mouth. He really knows how to use his head.
Thanks, I didn’t know that was a possibility in this case, I remember some of it but not that.
Barney Frank’s former chief of staff made all the arrangements. I don’t know if he was Pelosi’s coordinator but he could be.
You answer your own question. It diverts attention from the other miscreants.
Wouldn’t it be more productive to get moving on the trial of Maxine Waters, whose husband’s Massachusetts bank got bailout cash because she lobbied her Banking Committee pal Bawney Fwank?
Why has that case vanished since the November election?

"The staff delays have been cited as a reason for the postponed trials of Waters and former Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.)."
Thanks for that link. Looks like staff members on the Ethics Committee have very short shelf lives...
Interesting. Great thread. Great questions. Thanks to every poster. BTTT!
We may soon learn that gayness does not preclude criminality.
