This is a more in depth look at VIPR actions and the Constitution. After 9/11 DHS ran a series of disaster response exercises in major cities that focused on recovery from various WMD type events. That struck me as a very good thing as it introduced a lot of players to regularly exercising for a WMD type attack. These VIPR drills are, however, nothingg short of some sort of police state dry run. I am not a foil hat but security agencies train to do what they plan to do. I am sure that play in future execises will focus on establishing 'expedient detention centers' at a convention center or ball park also there will be low key field exercise play but high levels of command post exercise play orf rounding up detainees to fill the detention and classification centers. This is something very dangerous for federal agencies to be playing around with and needs to be stopped by legislative fiat and/or budgetary guidance of a very strict kind.

” is only possible thanks to an unofficial rewriting of the Fourth Amendment by the courts that essentially does away with any distinctions over what is “reasonable” when it comes to searches and seizures by government agents. The rationale, of course, is that anything is “reasonable” in the war on terrorism “
Which would have not been possible without the groundwork being laid in the “War on Drugs”, especially desensitiving the public to arbitrary intrusions, searches, and confiscations...

Coming soon to a grocery store near you. Best leave your cellphone at home as soon they will be searching/copying it, too.
One more reason to let the debt limit bring to a halt the progressive tyranny of the ruling class.
Great article! Thanks for posting!

“The goal of VIPR is to have an omnipresent anti-terrorist force deployed at every moderate or high-density site: malls, stadiums, restaurants, grocery stores and so on.”
Not enough money in the world to pay for this.

Not enough money in the world to pay for this. Hopefully not enough personnel to replace the casualties, either.

VIPR is the first major step in the government’s effort to secure so-called “soft” targets such as malls, stadiums, bridges, etc. In fact, some security experts predict that checkpoints and screening stations will eventually be established at all soft targets, such as department stores, restaurants, and schools. Given the virtually limitless number of potential soft targets vulnerable to terrorist attack, subjection to intrusive pat-downs and full-body imaging will become an integral component of everyday life in the United States. As Jim Harper of the Cato Institute observed, “The natural illogic of VIPR stings is that terrorism can strike anywhere, so VIPR teams should search anywhere.”
There will be push back. Believe it. You got me with the airports. You will NOT get my cooperation in my town.
And I carry.

Dominate. Intimidate. Control. In case anyone missed the point of the article, they're not talking about dominating, intimidating, and controlling terrorists. They're talking about dominating, intimidating, and controlling US.

I see a budget item that congressional Republicans can defund, saving the taxpayers $100 million! Sorry, Obama, we have to have cuts in order to raise the debt limit...

That’s because they want to eradicate air travel and put us all on trains.
Note to self: develop local economies that don’t rely on long distance travel.

Thats because they want to eradicate air travel and put us all on trains. Wishful thinking.
These are the TRANSPORTATION Security Goons. All modes of transportation including trains, ships, highways and sidewalks are within their charter.
They have already started screening municipal light rail stations, subways, Amtrak stations, bus stations, and highways.
All of that is within their charter by Federal Law.
