Precisely. There were some early memos from the Nazi concentration camp administrators, mentioning the difficulty in getting the normal young German soldier to commit these acts. The recommendation was to get the ball rolling with ‘former’ criminals first, to make it easier for the others. In time, the soldiers who had been traumatized by these orders eventually grew calloused and got over it, but the sociopaths within the ranks were the icebreakers.
