The other day I was approached by two Greenpeace activists with signature clipboards outside the supermarket. "Would you like to help save the whales?" they asked. I replied, "Whales? Oh, I love whales... [beat]... I had some on a salad in Kyoto a few years ago."

They looked cattle-prodded. It was delicious. (Which was more than I could say for the salad.)

I tell them the only thing the French ever did right was to sink the Rainbow Warrior. Their looks are priceless.
