Mexican soldiers discovered the largest marijuana plantation in the country's history, hidden under black cloth in the middle of the desert.
The 300-acre plantation is four times larger than the previous record discovery by authorities and workers had even installed toilet facilities, the Defence Department said.
The towering pot plants sheltered under black screen-cloth in a huge square on the floor of the Baja California desert, more than 150 miles south of Tijuana, across the border from San Diego.

Damn right they knew. 300 acres of green (even if it’s covered in black) in the middle of the Mojave stands out like a sore thumb.
Either they didn’t pay their bribe on time, or the competition paid a bigger bribe.
I would imagine it is very difficult to not notice 300 acres covered in black.
It’s money.
Money involved to set this operation up to begin with.
Then a gold mine for as long as it lasted.
The Mojave Desert is in CA. This pot farm was in Mexico.
Sonoran, pardon me.
“You know, if Mexicans spent half as much effort into growing working farms as they do these drug plantations, they wouldn’t be so poor, now would they?”
Believe me, the ones making money from this are not poor.
This ditch weed that can grow almost anywhere, even in a drawer or closet, is worth more than its weight in gold some places in the USA. This is why you’ll never stop it.
That farm is hidden??? ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!! A huge black square in the middle of the desert?
$1500.00 an ounce? I don't think so.
Gold’s almost at $1600.
High grade weed is about a quarter of that.
But you can’t grow gold.
I guess it shows how old I am. I recall when the most expensive stuff out there was ten, fifteen bucks for a lid.
You’re right, not as true anymore with the recent runs on gold and ammo. However, even these numbers are staggering for a plant that is cheaper than basil to grow.
Average street price for properly grown MJ in NYC has been $20 per 0.7 grams for at least 10 years. 31 grams to a troy ounce gives you $886 per t. ounce.
Consider that gold was $270 about 10 years ago. These little baggies can be sold for several times their weight in gold to a smoker and essentially grow on trees for the producer. Huge amounts of cash to be made by everyone in the chain.
Ever heard of 'Acapulco Gold'? (No stems, no seeds that you don't need....Acapulco Gold is.....*toke* bad ass weed)
Half a section under sunshade?
Had it been in the open, with maybe a furrow of corn around the perimeter, would anybody have noticed? (other than the smell)
Should have grown it as hemp for rope making.
