During the meeting between the President and the incoming Ambassador from Cyprus to Israel, Dimitris Hatziargrou, the new Ambassador thanked the President for Israel's support during this difficult period since the explosion in the Southern part of the country.
"Israel was among the first countries, if not the first, that offered assistance - and this is not a coincidence," Hatziargrou said. He also added, "the time is ripe for improving relations between Cyprus and Israel and I will do everything I can so that the relationship will realize its potential."
Later in the day President Peres called the President of Cyprus, Dimitris Christofias, to express his condolences on the loss of 12 civilians that were killed in the explosion in Southern Cyprus. President Peres emphasized that Israel shares Cyprus' grief and is willing to extend any help needed.
Israel has already sent 12 generators to help restore electricity to the country's residents, in addition to a medical delegation to aid the wounded.
The Cypriot President reportedly warmly thanked Peres and said that the people of Cyprus are extremely grateful to the people of Israel. He is also mentioned that he is working towards strengthening the cooperation and relations between the two countries.

Lebanon, whose government is dominated by the Hizbullah terror faction, is contesting Israel's claims to the gas fields in the international arena, while simultaneously rattling its sabers should Israel proceed with developing the fields.
