I see red every time an actress is referred to as an actor, as if calling her an actress somehow diminishes what she is. An actress is exactly the same as an actor, accept that an actress is a female.
The only time I liked this elimination of sex reference was in the new Battlestar Galactica. All superior officers are “sir” and there is no “ma’am” in the ranks. I like it because it fits with the ideal of “you’re a soldier, period.”
