Apparently, both the standard deduction and personal exemption are "loopholes."

It’s probably in the eye of the beholder. “Closing loopholes” undoubtedly polls better than “raising taxes”. Chances are there’s not a dime’s worth of real difference between the two.

I mean there could be - but in practice I bet there won’t be.
