"Buy private, no papers, legal in most states."

Thanks. Is it typical for private sellers to sell new guns? Where do you find them? At gun shows?

ps. many sellers require a drivers lisence to make sure you are of age and for any problems, like felonies, etc.

In my experience, most of the firearms that private sellers put on the market are used. Even so, many of them are often in pristine condition. A gun show is a good place to view a wide selection in one spot. No background check, and in many states, they don't collect sales tax either.

Don't feel like you are being interrogated if he asks if you are a resident of the state where the sale is taking place, or if you are a deranged criminal, out on bail. He's just covering a couple of bases (staying ahead of the Bloomberg loonies), and I'm OK with that.

Some private sellers have new guns. See gun shows, classified ads, or buddies. Much of what’s not new is near enough. I have 3 rifles I’ve never fired (2 arsenal refinished), and sold a brand new G19 to a co-worker for cash, no papers, all legal. Suppressed machine-guns are advertised about a mile from here, NFA & yellow form paperwork only. Living in a free state is nice.

You sometimes find new guns from private sales, but mostly not. Most people take good care of firearms so lightly used are fairly common. Gun shows, watch for guys walking around or coming in with firearms. Check the local news paper classifieds and add rags. Non-Craigslist online classifieds are also out there. For the most part Egay and Craigs are useless for firearms.

I tend to keep up with friends, relatives and neighbors who might have guns they want to sell.
