As debt-limit negotiations consume Capitol Hill, Sen. Jim DeMint (R., S.C.) urges Republicans to be cautious. The president is a magician, he says in an interview with National Review Online. He has been using sleight of hand. This is not time for Republicans to find compromise, we have to figure out how to stop him.
If not, and Republicans deal, DeMint warns that such a move would be suicidal.
Any grand deal would not get through the House, DeMint says. The president knows what hes doing hes trying to get the Republicans to renege on their pledge not to raise taxes. If Republicans break that pledge, the same thing that happened to [President George H.W.] Bush will happen to us: well get thrown out.
DeMint emphasizes that Republicans have discussed increasing the debt limit in good faith, but after pushing for structural fiscal reforms, they were told by Democrats that tax increases had to be part of the equation. The president is not serious about dealing with the debt, he says. Its clear his only objective, in recent days, has been to burn up the clock and push Republicans against the wall.
DeMint does not believe that President Obama would ever consider major entitlement reforms, even though the president said he would at a press conference earlier this week. Its frustrating, DeMint says. Americans are tired of Obamas condescending rhetoric. Congress cant vote on a speech. The only thing the president has sent us all year, in writing, is a budget to increase the debt over $10 trillion.
All he is doing is trying to make Republicans look unreasonable, DeMint says. He knew when these negotiations started that tax increases could never be on the table. For him to throw them back on, talking about corporate jets, its poll-tested politics.
They already caved. Check it.
He needs to take Mitch behind the woodshed and whip him good.
Notice that the usual lib Congressional bloviators are not hugely vocal? They do not want to take up Obama’s cause—lethal poling. Call Obama’s bluff. Dollar for dollar cuts for increase in the debt limit. Final offer.
Boner has enough RINOS to for a RINO/RAT coalition. He will. We are screwed.
SCREWED!!!!?
What does he say now to the latest from Bitch McConnell, eh??
Hopefully he asks for the keys to the Minority Leader’s office.
This President is a lying piece of garbage. He is insane. DeMint is right not believing in this communists jackass.
A journalist—back when they were men— said “compromise “ is a good umbrella but a poor roof.” The US Army Drill Sgt. assigned my group taught us someone trained by the US Army had taught him that “Compromise was the first step of a man defeated by his foes. I can agree with both. And I agree with the sentiment “NOW is NOT the time for the GOP to “compromise” The enemy has the “already captured Press” ,They will be expected to sound like the Democratic Whip Hoyer blaming the Republicans- like their Big Government President Obama/Soetoro Whoever the H-— it is? They think the American people are too stupid to understand this aint about the debt—it is ALL about Power -as it always has been for the Democratic Party of Deception and Destruction.I will remember in November if any deals is made with the enemy, My Votes will NOT go for anybody who has put their Party ahead of “we the People” If the enemy steals the entire Govt. WHO Cares— Our Govt has made itself irrelevant a very long time ago when it first decided political power trumped service in fear of God.
NFW, we are not screwed.
The freshmen pubbies in the house will not cave, therefore the crying bartender from Columbus, will not cave, because he knows that if he does, Eric Cantor will replace this bawling boy.
Cantor, unfortunately, is scant improvement.
Mitch tried a complicated 3rd contingency plan. But, that is not a real cave . It is so complex that Obama said No already or tried to evade it. Mitch’s comments on the Senate floor was indeed his real feelings. No deal with this guy in the WH so he must go. DeMint should just keep the pressure on because voters are I know via emails and calls.
Obama hasn’t offered up a plan so how is a compromise possible?
Republicans have a long history of selling us out one freedom at a time.
I hope they hold firm this time, but I’m waiting for the news they caved.
Well, it’s just that apparently ‘compromise’ means “do it my way.”
