Good luck with that! (I intend both to say this sincerely and also to comment on the likelihood that it will become law)
Once again I must admit, the milkman from Green Tree, PA is making a lot of sense.
I'm old enough to remember when Americans couldn't own gold unless it was in their teeth. Sen. James Buckley, Bill's brother, managed to get that changed just in time to see gold's price rocket upward to a high of ~800 dollars and ounce in 1980. You have to wonder where we'd be today if gold was still illegal to hold.
I took the liberty of adding "ronpaul" as a key word to this posting, as I believe there are quite a few on FreeRepublic who would miss this article otherwise.
Oh, and welcome to Free Republic!
This is a sound proposal that was advanced years ago by Friedrich Hayek.
“Many of us have gone around back home and told people how serious we are,” says tea party-backed freshman Rep. Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C. “But how can we look them in the eye and tell them that we are serious about cutting spending and then come in and ‘plus up’ the base defense budget?”
Rep. Mulvaney is correct. If any member of Congress wants to be taken seriously, this blind race to fiscal oblivion is no longer acceptable. Republicans, especially, should take the lead in figuring out what’s really needed for defense — $320 million for military bands? — and slashing the rest.
