I was at a neighborhood poker saturday night and mentioned the poll that I had seen about 50% (or close to that) Americans could not come up with #2,000.00 within 30 days.

I took the contrarian position and was about beat-up when I said I though it was bunk...most didn't think so.

I don’t think its bunk. Everyone I know is broke, working but broke. Hubby and I have a pretty good income but even we have felt the pinch. The price of groceries and gas is killing our budget and I have been looking for ways around it...cheaper meals, etc.
We have had some extraordinary expenses lately that have hit our discretionary savings account hard. Lawyers, taxes, back taxes, etc.

Define, “come up with”, if it means raising 2000 without borrowing or selling some prized possession I doubt that anywhere near fifty percent can do it. If it means rake, scrape, borrow, steal or come up with it by any means possible then maybe it is different. Even at that a lot of people wouldn’t have a chance.
