The answer to your obviously rhetorical question is that there is no limit - you can own however many firearms you'd like to own, and transporting them is no problem (though you can't carry a loaded long gun with you in the passenger compartment in cities or in close proximity to them - no problem in rural areas, though).
The problem with rooting for the ATF to be hung out to dry, and with it the people like Holder that authorized this scheme, is that we're rooting for the current gun laws to be enforced...i.e. against the 2nd Amendment. True 2nd Amendment suporters don't have a problem with themselves buying a gun for another person (a so-called "straw purchase"), which is at the heart of this scandal.
Personally, I'm hoping for a special prosecutor and the later defunding of the ATF (along with the destruction of its records database), but I know that such a situation will only occur when I have my eyes closed and it being dark outside. But one can at least hope that the perpetrators of this scheme, who have armed the cartels with weapons that have led to the murders of many hundreds or thousands of Mexican citizens as well as many in the US, will be brought to justice, and that their motivation - to further limit our meager gun rights - will be utterly discredited.
HUH? There is No such law in Texas. If you can legally possess a firearm, you can walk or ride down any street in Texas with a loaded long gun or handgun in/on your vehicle ready for use without a permit/license of any kind. If you are outside your vehicle and want to carry with a handgun, you need a Concealed handgun License. No restrictions on a long gun.
That's an interesting point I hadn't seen made before, but now we're talking about aliens -- illegal aliens at that.
