Hmm. 28% is probably very close to the actual number of Americans who being supported by the government.

I know this might be a tad off topic, but one thing that I think needs to be rooted out for this to work is defeatism. Many good-hearted conservative people out there are just so defeatist they do not even put in the effort. Root out the defeatism and we might get people out there trying to do good again.
For instance, I was at my old church this morning to pay them a visit while I was in town, and this one friend was acting as if gay marriage and persecution are inevitable. Mind you, this is a postmillenialist church. Thankfully, I simply told him that I refused to give up and that kind of attitude is what was causing it. He agreed. Now, maybe instead of complaining about it on Sunday mornings, he’ll do something.

I wonder how the survey numbers would change if instead of “a government managed economy” they used the correct term fascism.

We are at a defining moment. If the GOP falters again Obama will be able to continue papering over the abject failure of our past Socialist mistakes. He s out of OPM. So is the GOP. It is time to bite the bullet and start over.

...and 26% of those polled have been deceased for years, but never miss voting straight-ticket Democrat. Thanks george76.

Given the economies with lots of government intervention ends up being a disaster (China under Mao Zedeng ended up being an economic dead end--very literally!), I still prefer a market-driven economy.
And now, Europe--where most of the countries in the Eurozone have a lot of control by government, especially the European Union from its headquarters in Brussels--is also headed for a major economic meltdown because it appears that Portugal, Italy and Greece are headed towards debt default, and that could cause Ireland and Spain to default, which will result in a horrible collapse with worldwide implications.

Republicans and unaffiliated voters overwhelmingly prefer a free market approach. Among these segments of the electorate, the number preferring a government-managed economy is in the single digits. Among Democrats, 48% say a free market is better, but 29% think a government-managed economy is the answer. Twenty-three percent (23%) are not sure. Seventy-five percent (75%) of those who work for a private company give the nod to a free market economy, compared to 53% of government employees. The majority (56%) of all voters think increased competition rather than increased government regulation is the best way to hold big business accountable. But 34% see increased regulation as the better course. So almost 1 in 3 rat voters are officially fans of the Soviet Union. And 14% of all voters are officially too stupid to decide one way or the other.
