France tells Libya rebels to seek peace with Gaddafi

A French minister said on Sunday it was time for Libya's rebels to negotiate with Muammar Gaddafi's government, but Washington said it stood firm in its belief that the Libyan leader cannot stay in power.

The diverging messages from two leading members of the Western coalition opposing Gaddafi hinted at the strain the alliance is under after more than three months of air strikes that have cost billions of dollars and failed to produce the swift outcome its backers had expected.

French Defense Minister Gerard Longuet signaled growing impatience with the progress of the conflict when he said the rebels should negotiate now with Gaddafi's government and not wait for his defeat.

The rebels have so far refused to hold talks as long as Gaddafi is still in power, a stance which before now none of NATO's major powers has publicly challenged.

"We have .... have asked them to speak to each other," Longuet, whose government has until now been among the most hawkish on Libya, said on French television station BFM TV.

Don't pretend you care about Libyan civilians. You sure don't care about the ones Kadaffy has killed, not to mention the innocent Americans he's killed. Anyone who roots for the muslim terrorist Kaddafy is a god-damn traitor to the USA and the innocent Americans murdered by that animal.

All you can do is say boohoo evil USA kills poor innocent muslims with bombs boohoo why oh why do they hate us!?

I do care about them. I’m not rooting for Gaddafi. The suggestion that I am is a lie. Not a surprise coming from a nutter like you.

I suggested nothing. Repugnant terrorist-lovers are openly rooting for Kadaffy to win right here on this very thread. If you disagree with them and do not consider yourslef one of them I'm glad to hear you say so! Such repulsive statements should be condemned and I at least will do so!

Kadaffy's disgusting cheerleaders speak only for their own little circlejerk echo-chamber!

I don't care what happens to Gaddafi. I care more about what happens to our Traitor in Chief. I think he's far more of a danger to the U.S. now than Gaddafi ever has been. I've told you before that this operation makes our foreign policy look schizophrenic and it does. Gaddafi is a nasty guy be we took it upon ourselves, under W. Bush, to make amends and accept concessions from him and our asshat current Pres. jumps out of left field and attacks him with absolutely no national or security interest in it.

As far as civilians go; far fewer would have died had Gaddafi quickly put down the rebellion. I guess that sounds cold but how it sounds is just an emotional response. It's still a fact that fewer would have died.

I only care what happens to Kadaffy. He is the terrorist who blew up innocent American civilians. Some people want him to get away with that just because they want to defend Bush's policy or just because they don't like Obama. They are no better than the RATS who rooted for Saddam. I for one will never support America's enemies no matter who is POTUS.

Kadaffy made no concessions to us. He has never paid for his crimes in any way. He got US corporations like Halliburton and Occidental Petroleum to pay money to the families of his American victims so they could seal lucrative contracts with him!

They betrayed the American people for money!

Yes, I know. Your complete disregard for common sense is puzzling.

He is the terrorist who blew up innocent American civilians.

Your lack of common sense is fueled by irrational hatred, yes, I know that too.

Some people want him to get away with that just because they want to defend Bush's policy or just because they don't like Obama.

No, some people have enough regard for our country to use their brains and think about what is best for the country rather than their own personal neurotic desires for vengeance for acts that were long ago let go of by rational leaders.

Let's see, Kadaffy blew up innocent Americans and you don't care whether he ever pays for it or not, but I'm the one who's irrational?

What's best for America is that terrorists who kill us can get away with it scot free and if we don't want our leaders to make deals with him then we are full of hatred?

Yeah that sounds real smart and rational and wise, not.

The point is that our leaders already made deals with him. Sane people deal with what is not what they want things to be.

You just lack vision.

Trust me, my view is the one which will win out, regardless of how popular or unpopular it might be around here right now.

Imam Obama has stabbed our European allies in the back and is busy securing victory for Jeremiah Wright and Farrakhan's good comrade Kadaffy in his war against America. That is why our NATO allies are now negotiating with Kadaffy.

This will be an election issue. Obama will be replaced by someone who will promise to do what Obama refused to do and remove Kadaffy from power. It won't be Ron Paul or anyone else who agrees with the far-left Kucinich and Conyers wing of the RAT party either!

Yeah, from all indications that is what is happening. /s ROTFLOL

You heard it here first!
Is the Libyan War Effort Collapsing? - 07/11/2011 - French Defense Minister Gerard Longuet said France was prepared to halt the bombing if the Libyan rebels and Muammar Qaddafi's loyalists agreed to lay down arms and negotiate, because there was "no solution with force." When asked if talks could take place without Qaddafi relinquishing power, as the opposition demands, Longuet added, "He will be in another room in his palace with another title...."

This is what happens when a multi-lateral circus starts deploying ordnance without a clear set of victory conditions. “Victory” will apparently become whatever outcome France is willing to settle for, now that the outright defeat of Qaddafi seems unlikely. French television has apparently been complaining about the high cost of the Libyan operation, pegged at “a million euros a day.” Inconclusive wars become economic propositions. Who’s going to break under the financial strain first: a billionaire dictator who wants nothing more than to cling to power… or a group of heavily indebted European welfare states, and their equally insolvent American sugar daddy?

France is doing this as a result of Obama’s “leading from behind,” in other words his refusal to lead NATO to victory. We have a chance to split France from Germany and bring France into the transatlantic alliance with the USA and UK and instead Imam Obama is pushing them into the Russian and Chinese camp who are demanding a cease-fire!

JFK was assassinated by a communist. The conspiracy theorists are the ones who think that somehow France and England secretly want to establish an islamic caliphate in North Africa.

Then why did France and England want to go to war when the rebels could have won quickly but Obama stalled until it was too late?
