I wish your assertion was true. It will be very difficult to beat Obama even with the dismal economic situation. More than half of voters receive substantial government transfer payments. A large part of this group will vote for any Democrat. Obama remains personally popular which is a big boost to his re-election chances. His popularity may be due to the media’s cheering.

You are right about the historical importance of unemployment. Offsetting the unemployment numbers somewhat however is the large amount of government transfer payments given to more than half of the population. Democrats have expanded most entitlement programs and created some new costly programs.
