If one of those MACH-3 missiles DOES get in, it is moving way too fast to be shot down with conventional means, by the time it moves to within PHALANX range, it will also hit the ship before it can be shot down. If it jinks in flight before hitting it’s target, soemthing we knew how to make happen 30 years ago, that ship is in dead serious trouble.
Those missiles also fly faster than the anti-aircraft missiles we shoot at them from the side or behind, our only hope is to be within 10 miles when we launch a missile from any diagonal from the front approach or head on so that the missile has the range to follow and destroy that missile inbound.
These new hypersonic missiles are a genuine threat!
OK, I will cede to you the technical possibility that Iran could do serious damage to one of our carriers or another ship in the group. Do you think they are really crazy enough to want to find out what our response would be?
