(CNN) -- A major earthquake struck off northeastern Japan Sunday, prompting tsunami advisories for several coastal regions, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, according to the Japanese news agency Kyodo.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake struck at 10:57 a.m. at the epicenter, about 130 miles east of Sendai.
The earthquake was more than 20 miles deep and had a magnitude of 7.0, the USGS said.
The JMA measured the magnitude of the quake at 7.1.

Tell ya one thing, the ring of fire sure seems to be a lot more active lately. At least it seems that way.
Notice they said off Sendai. The Fukushima nuclear plant is only about 50-60 miles south of Sendai so the quake was about the same distance from there.

Update on the update - another 4.7 in the last 30 minutes. They’ve had four within the last day and a half. Hope the 7 was the big one and this isn’t building up into something worse.
These poor people can’t catch a break.

Not directly, but indirectly. While I know that there is more that goes on then what we think we know or what we are told, I don’t buy into the whole “space aliens/astronauts” thing.
I am curious to see what, if anything, will happen when Elenin passes close to Earth in October, though.
