I've been a cop for 8 years and a US Army officer for 1. Believe me when I say you have to let the yellers, cursers, and name-callers slide off your back. If we all met and had no idea who the other ones were, I can honestly say I would probably get along with 95% of FReepers (unless the subject of law enforcement came up!).
I know how it really is out there. I live my life surrounded by cops. Good guys/gals who just want to do their job and go home to their families. Sure, some are complete idiots but we stay away from them and request not to work with them.
But rest assured, there are plenty of straight up criminals in the US military. Where are the articles about them? It's a strange world we live in. An even stranger internet we surf.
“...but we stay away from them and request not to work with them.”
That’s called passing the buck. For every bad cop, there are a dozen “good” cops who enable them. Do you really sleep well at night knowing that there are idiots in uniform with gov’t issued guns and the force of law behind them running around our streets?
Suppose police officers were placed under the UCMJ, so instead of Internal Affairs, they would be investigated by its military counterpart. Suppose also that, like the military, there would be no union.
1. Would such a system be more effective than the current system in weeding out idiots and criminals?
2. Would you favor the above scenario being applied?
