I’m not familiar with the specifics, but I would assume based on their success in education that Apple has a very good sales force. Whether their techniques are 100% ethically above board is anybody’s guess. Do you see a lot of your school board members and administrators buzzing around with iPods, iPads, Mac Airbooks, etc?
2100 dollars per laptop. That’s apple style for you.
Here I am typing on my surplus Dell that cost me 200 bucks.
I could have supplied the entire school for a tenth of the cost.
I’m not familiar either, but I went to a community meeting with the Principal of the new High School that was just built near me and he raved about getting all 850 students new Apple laptops. I probably should have spoken up at the time, but it seemed like a done deal. I figured the laptops were probably on the way as we spoke. We have another meeting this Thursday and I definitely will say something since I read this article. I remember this same thing from years ago. It seems that Apple has only lost market share since then. I’d better check my stats before I make a complete idiot of myself in front of the whole County, huh? I don’t mind being a partial idiot, but a complete idiot....I’d like for no one to know that about me...smile.
Forget my last comment (I’ll leave it in here for comedic relief.) I just looked up Apple’s market share. It’s almost a whopping 10%...WOW!!! It indeed is growing. I’m surprised at that. Up from 4% in 2006. I bet most of that surge is because of school systems like this one and mine doing wholesale buying with taxpayer money. Every company I deal with through my buisness is PC Compatible. I still believe most if not all industry is PC-Compatible so for that reason and for the sake of my business, I will still “suffer” with the Windows platform and suggest that Students use PC Compats. Plus I’m too old to change now.
Plus the price of PC Compatibles when buying a large quantity seems to be about a quarter to a third of the price of Apples depending on where you get them.
