Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama is seeking $3 trillion to $4 trillion in deficit cuts over the next decade, a move that would require putting Social Security, Medicare, defense spending and tax reform on the table as part of a balanced approach to cuts, Democratic officials familiar with the negotiations told CNN.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not say what types of cuts would have to be considered under such a proposal. In the past, one Social Security adjustment debt negotiators have discussed is cost-of-living.

The left is already having an enormous cow this morning, the flipout in DUmmieland is huge. The Dems are saying Obama is caving like a prostitue needing a meth hit. Have heard Obama has put SS and Medicare on the block. He may as well resign if he does as the left will rip him to pieces.

Obama has no intention that this proposal would actually be enacted. It’s kinda like his budget earlier this year that failed 0-97 in the Senate.

This is BS. I don’t want cuts over a decade. I want them today.

The Dems are having a complete flip out, its hilarious to watch them as Obama flails. The language i’ve seen used this morning on Obama from Dems is kinda like what i expect from the republican side, lol.

If we could just go back to how everything-and I mean EVERYTHING-was January 19, 2009 that would be a start. Just a start mind you, but, better than anything they’ll come up with out of these “negotiations”.

exactly what I though when I heard this.
There is no way O has any intention of seeing these “cuts” through. NO WAY.

And what about all the welfare - in all its forms - according to Obama? What about the unearned income tax credits?

What I predicted months ago is coming to pass.

Obama has flirted with the idea of forsaking his base and going for the Independents for some time but it looks like now he is taking the leap.

The far left just isn't delivering the campaign cash anymore and Obama is not the FDR he thought he was who can increase socialism for a decade or more.

Of course, like Clinton Obama will now take credit for any recovery which results when in actuality he makes this move purely for political survival.

After years of lies, misrepresentations, disinformation, obfuscation, and ‘promises’ worthy of a used-car-salesman, they’re wanting me to believe that Zero has suddenly ‘got religion’???

Don’t think so....

This is BS. I don’t want cuts over a decade. I want them today.

The decade timeframe is what has been under discussion for a few months now.

If you think you will get all these cuts today with a Dem President and Senate you're dreaming. Get what you can today and work for a GOP Pres.

Why can’t they cut the overhead in Washington before focusing on the poor folks on SS and Medicare? We need an organization like Charity Navigator to look at each Federal agency and see how much of each budget dollar goes for administration and how much goes for trully helping people in need. I’ll bet the result would be both telling and amazing.

From another thread -

1. Welfare - reductions or elimination, depending on the ease of abuse and lack of accountability.
2. Elimination of Medicaid
3. Elimination of non-contributory Medicare.
4. Total elimination of con-contributory Social Security.
5. Cut in Social security equal to cuts in every other elected official and public employee salary, perks and retirement benefits.

Plus eliminate the billions spent on illegals.

“thats around $300-400 billion per year.”

And his annual deficits average about $1.4 trillion - which means cuts of that size won’t even cut the yearly shortfall in half.

That’s a common trick used by these clowns - propose some change over the course of decades to make it look more significant than it really is.

“This is BS. I don’t want cuts over a decade. I want them today.”

And that’s the congressional/presidential shuck-and-jive: make numbers look bigger by multiplying by 10, even though the exclusion will appear in spending bills right after any bill is passed.

The only cuts that matter are the ones that happen now. Future cuts are irrelevant, as future “needs” can be declared with the excuse that “spending would have been much higher” without the previous “cuts”.

Cut all government subsidies and grants. The federal government has no business subsidizing anything.
