White guilt was what elected obama and White guilt is what will re-elect him.
There was no discernable racial discrimination - not saying it didn't exist at some level but people were too involved in living their own lives to spend time counting black noses, brown noses, white noses.
Everyone in town was struggling just to stay alive and put food on the table. Except for a few wealthy families, whites and blacks were equally poor. During WWII food and everything else was rationed. Blacks and whites got the same number of ration coupons.
Kids all wore mended jeans, worn out shoes, threadbare jackets and went to the same school together. We all hunted and fished the same woods and creeks.
All the black kids I knew had a mother and father and went to church on Sundays.
Having a child out of wedlock was a family tragedy for white and black.
Blacks and whites looked on government welfare or food commodities as something to be avoided. There was a stigma attached: It was a last resort, something short term and temporary to help them get over a bad time.
People didn't hate someone who had more than they did. They just wanted to find a way to earn more themselves.
This must read like a Fairy tale today, but that is exactly how it was in the 1940's and 1950's.
Then LBJ, President Johnson, came along and figured out how to create black dependancy on the government by fostering racism, distrust and envy. And he did just that, using such programs as "The Great Society" and "The War On Poverty".
