The letter from Issa and Grassley linked to above notes that political appointee “Marshall Jarret” is involved in all of this.

Anyone else thinking “Valerie Jarret”?

Actually most likely H. Marshall Jarrett now Director, Executive Office for United States Attorney before he was head of the Office of Professional Responsibility as part of Bush's bi partisan “New Tone”

He repaid Bush by being an internal pusher in the Valerie Plame scam.

Marshall Jarrett and Holder go back a long way.

From an interesting http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1202429854102&pos=ataglance&slreturn=1&hbxlogin=1

“...Until last week, the OPR had been run for 10 years by H. Marshall Jarrett, a longtime Holder colleague and only the second person to head the office since its creation in 1975. Holder and Jarrett had worked together at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C. and at Main Justice when Holder was deputy attorney general. Jarrett will land at the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, which oversees the 94 U.S. Attorneys’ oOfices across the country. His supporters say the move was less a referendum on his OPR stewardship than Holder’s promotion of a friend and accomplished prosecutor to a position of increased responsibility...”

From http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0409/21042.html

However, a Justice Department spokesman, Matt Miller, said Jarrett’s transfer and Brown’s appointment were not related to Sullivan’s criticism or the Stevens case. “It has absolutely nothing to do with that,” Miller said.

“I have the highest regard for [Jarrett’s] experience, talents and capabilities,” Holder said in a written statement. The attorney general also tapped Kenneth Melson to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, commonly known as ATF.
