Gov. Rick Perry: The Candidate Obama Would Fear Most
Human Events ^ | 07/06/2011 | Merrill Matthews

Posted on 07/06/2011 5:23:22 AM PDT by PSYCHO-FREEP

More than any other potential GOP presidential candidate, President Obama fears Texas Gov. Rick Perry. That's because Perry is the only one who can devastate virtually any Obama claim.

Take the whine we hear most often from the President: That President George W. Bush handed him a terrible economic situation. As USA Today reported June 2: "[White House spokesman Jay] Carney noted that when Obama took office on Jan. 20, 2009, he faced the worst economy since the Great Depression. Obama also inherited the biggest budget deficits in history, from a Republican President—George W. Bush—who had come into office with budget surpluses."

A full two and a half years after taking office, Team Obama still blames Bush—for everything except the fall of Adam. Well, there is one other elected chief executive who inherited a Bush economy: Rick Perry, as governor of Texas. And yet I have never once heard Perry whining that the state would be doing so much better if it hadn't been for the policies of his predecessor.

To use a football analogy—I mean, we're talking about Texas—it's not who hands you the football and it's not where the ball is handed to you, it's what you do with the ball after you have it.

Rick Perry took the ball from Bush and scored an economic touchdown for Texas. Obama took the ball from Bush and fumbled it—repeatedly—giving the other team a chance to score a touchdown.

Which brings us to the Obama vs. Perry records on the economy. What has happened to some of the key indicators of economic well-being since Obama has been in charge (roughly January of 2009 to June 2011)?

I’m a Texan and have had my issues with Gov. Perry in the past.

Today, I believe he’s on the right path, is heads above the other GOP candidates and would definitely defeat Obama in the general.

And he’s a REAL Texan not some Ivy league, northeasterner.

The article breaks that issue down quite well, in the way it describes it as a football game scenario. Good article. Well written.

“You forgot rotten candidates like Reagan, who was a former Democrat and also signed into law the first Amnesty.”

In 1988, the Democrats were DEFINED by Jimmy Carter - picking a national party for someone who CLAIMS to be a conservative was not very difficult.

And by the way, I don’t remember Reagan chairing any Democratic campaigns...but perhaps you do.

As to Amnesty - you sound like you’re for OPEN BORDERS, which explains a lot here. As to myself, I didn’t support Amnesty in 1986 and I don’t now.

I agree. Here is a man who will smoke Romney like a cheap, dried-up cigar.

Not just open borders. He LOVES crony capitalism. Oh, and he HATES a certain prospective candidate who stepped all over his Murkowski gravy train.

You, telling me about posting ethics? ROFLMAO!

What's so funny about it? It was YOUR post that was removed. It was your post that insinuated that FReepers who support other candidates are Nazis.

I'm disappointed that you haven't yet gotten the Zot, but I'm betting your time is nigh.

Demagogue someone else. My past stand is clear about “Open Borders” or Amnesty. (I am totally against it.)

I share your feelings, but I do not put Perry in that camp. I am still not 100% sold on him, but he’s one of the better ones running. To, me He’s in the group with Bachmann, Cain and possibly Palin...not the old guard of Newt, Santorum and Romney. The establishment folks we are sick of tired to oust Perry last year by supporting Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

Last year, Perry was the choice of the tea party, Palin, and other conservatives. He is much more in tune with the tea party movement than most options, especially for a three term governor who didn’t ‘need’ them to win. He is a champion of most of the core issues in the tea party. Although, he’s a mixed bad on immigration issues, he’s great on the role of government, tenth amendment, taxes, and others.

I don’t view Perry as the Bush of 1980. Romney is in that position. There is no Reagan in this bunch. Some would say Palin is, and she certainly has some of the same traits. She’s probably the closest thing we’ve seen in that mold, but she is not the same type of long-term ideological leader that Reagan was. She carries the mantle quite well, though. (I am a fan). If she and Perry entered, it would be interesting to see who gets the momentum. If he enters and she doesn’t, most of us are assuming he’ll get Palin’s backing.

You're suggesting that people who don't support Perry are racist NAZI's, and you really don't understand how much a turn off that might be on FR?

Are you really that stupid?

Exactly. I would love to support the candidate who is running on deporting all illegals. Oh right - there isn’t one.

As a Texan, I have misgivings about Perry.

First, the Texas governorship has limited actual authority.

Most of the governor's power rests in appointments. Very little power rests in influencing legislation, except via veto or by the selection of which items to include in a special session of the legislature.

Most actual power rests with the lieutenant governor. Therefore many of the accomplishments credited to Perry (or formerly credited to Bush, when he was governor) are actually largely attributable to others.

Secondly, Perry has always seemed to be more about Perry, than he has been about actually doing things for the good of the state.

Thirdly, Perry has very little international expertise or experience.

Michelle Bachman seems a more sound candidate, although admittedly she is not nearly as well understood here in Texas as is Perry.

Having said all of that, I certainly would support Perry, if he were to become the nominee, as an alternative to four more years of Obama.

Once the word is out from Texans?

You mean the same Texans who re-elected him 3 times?

Not at all, you are the one making that accusation.

This term has been used in other places that describes hard core types who will not vote, stay home or vote third party if the candidate is not absolutely perfect in every way, or meets every aspect of their requirements.

Calling anyone a Nazi is not at all in that description.

...and by the way, a “true Social Conservative” doesn’t require pre-teen girls to get vaccinated so that they have unrestrained sex while in middle school and high school.

I dare anyone to find a more idiotic statement on this thread than this one you posted.

You're seriously suggesting that Perry's intent with the HPV vaccine was to promote promiscuity in teenage girls?

Perhaps you'd like to revise and extend your remarks, Senator BuFoon?

When the MSM rips Perry like they do Palin and Bachman, then I will consider him a viable candidate.

Post 12: But they are still coming out with their arian rhetoric none the less.

Your post # 15 has been removed by the moderator, but had an even worse (and more stupid) Aryan comment.

It's not just my accusation, it's your own stupid use of the term.

Your inability to admit your own stupidity on this matter seems to be quite normal though.
