And this is why Armey worked so hard to put himself out front of the Tea Party movement. They wanted a judas goat in place to co-opt it and lead it back onto the reservation if it became a threat to unseat the establishment or disrupt politics-as-usual for large GOP donors.

Perry, who has little chance of winning the nomination himself, is being pushed into the race to splinter-off as much evangelical support as possible from conservatives. They're calculating that evangelicals will vote for the candidate that looks/sounds the most like their church pastor regardless of actual record on the issues.

A vote for Perry is a vote for Romney (and probably for Perry, who is no prize himself, as the other half of the ticket).

Michelle Malkin: "In response to amnesty stooge Dick Armey"

From the article:

"I have wonderful, grass-roots friends at Freedomworks.

Dick Armey is not one of them.

He’s a clueless promoter of bailout-happy, big government Republican Sen. John McCain. And Armey’s a blowhard-y Beltway dinosaur who can’t resist shooting off his mouth and alienating the Tea Party base while criticizing other conservatives of alienation. At the National Press Club to promote the D.C. protest against Demcare, Armey veered off into a liberal platitude-littered rant against conservatives who believe in strict enforcement of our immigration laws."

THANK YOU for the link:

Armey went on to say:

“......Armey said “this is a nation of immigrants” and “if you love America, love freedom” and if you will work and pay taxes, you should be welcome in the country.

The former majority leader, who is now chairman of FreedomWorks and heavily involved in the Tea Party movement, said the INS is “deformed” and “dysfunctional.”

“They way they treat these folks is unbelievably rude and callous and cruel. Fix that agency, make it do its job, make it do its job in a humane … fashion and then you can control the borders,” he said.

Armey also said “the Republican Party is the most naturally talented party at losing its natural constituents in the history of the world.”

“This party was born with the emancipation proclamation and can’t get a black vote to safe its life. How do they do that?” [end quote]
