Perry Watch: A (nonpartisan) computer concludes that Rick Perry is the only Republican who can beat Obama

Andrea Vasquez

July 5, 2011

...Excerpt...

A forecasting model called PollyVote combines several index models for a well-rounded approach to predicting the next U.S. president. One of the models used in PollyVote is a biographical index, called PollyBio, that ranks candidates based on 59 biographical characteristics such as age, home state and athleticism.

.....

When they tested PollyBio on the past 29 presidential elections – from 1896 to 2008 – the forecast matched the actual outcome 27 times. The two it missed: Jimmy Carter’s 1976 election and Bill Clinton’s 1992 election.

.....

Perry was the only one among 14 GOP candidates to come out ahead of Obama. Compared side-by-side on the PollyVote bio index, Perry came out with 21 points to Obama’s 20, translating to 50.3 percent of votes for Perry...

WOW! Must be something you really don’t like about Perry.

Hey Rip, you must have been asleep for the last few weeks, all your same old PDS stuff has been long over-played over-hyped and dismissed as arian conservative du jour. This PDS routine looks like libertarian Tag Team.

“WOW! Must be something you really don’t like about Perry.”

It wasn’t all that long ago, Rick Perry was working to get Al Gore elected President.

THAT is more than enough for me.

Well, it’s obvious that since neither Mittens nor Pawlenty are growing legs, the MSM has to push another “consensus” candidate on us.

No thanks. . . .we’ll choose a candidate all by ourselves!!

I keep thinking we have a real shot this time.

We'd better. I'm not convinced it's anyone currently running and I'm not convinced it's Perry either. But whoever he or she is, I hope and pray we figure it out.

It's set then, we have to support an Obama like person to be able to replace Obama.

How can you even compare the two? Perry is pro-life, pro-gun, pro-God, pro-military - served in the military, pro-business and low taxes. Apples and oranges - IMO.

Long after Perry supported the palpably phony sociopath Al Gore for President, he supported 3x-married, militantly pro-abortion Rudy Giuliani for President! Yet we are supposed to believe that Perry is a deeply-committed social conservative.

When are people going to wake up and realize that career politicians like Perry are sociopaths who will say anything to get elected? Let’s back someone who was conservative when (and where) “conservative” wasn’t cool, like Palin (Alaska), Bachmann (MN), and Cain (the black community). Reagan had a successful private career long before he went into politics, and never was active on behalf of Leftists. In contrast, Perry was a career political hack who turned Republican only when it served his career interests. Even then, he supported “liberal” (RINO) Republicans. Forget this guy! We don’t need him!

It was a poor posting on my part.

Honestly, I don't know much about Perry and what I do know I like.

My conveyance was focused more on the constant pounding of not having a chance in hell if a democrat lite isn't put up against Obama instead of a Reagan like conservative coming in and fixing the issues we are facing once and for all!

We don't have to please the moderates by being moderate, we will impress the hell out of moderates and turn them conservative by being conservative.

Personally, Rick Perry doesn't concern me yet, I'm still learning about him.

Perry is on my short-list of candidates I will support but this article and this idea of a “non-partisan computer forecasting election results” is stupid on so many levels I’d rather not take the time to go into it.

Let me just summarize my thinking on the article and the concept:

Garbage In, Garbage Out

I just don’t understand the anti-Perry folks in general. Yes he has flaws and he’s made some bad decisions. But if you write a conservative wish list of our general principles, he does meet most of them. Plus, he has executive experience as the three-term governor of a large state that is doing quite well during the obama depression. How can we afford to be picky trying to find that 100% perfect candidate when the goal should be ousting the anti-American marxist in the White House? In all honesty, who else in the field do you think is more acceptable who has an actual shot at winning (keeping mind that we can’t do it without independents)? The independent vote is what helped us win the house in 2010.

I guess you didn’t notice that I tagged it political humor. :)

For now at least, I’ve got Perry in my top tier. He’s got some warts, but they all do.

I don’t look at those tags but the article doesn’t appear to be onion-like. Is it? Is it tongue-in-cheek? Sometimes the sarcasm can be so subtle it blends in with reality, which in the America of 2011 is already so skewed that it’s hard to tell the difference anymore.

Whatever. Just talking about Perry and forgetting all this stuff about computers predicting elections:

So far, from what I’ve seen, I like him.

My shortlist:

Palin
Perry
Bachmann
Cain

To be fair, you should toss out any model that predicted the election of Jimmy Carter.
