Yes. I am. Emotion driven lynch mob. Not all but most.
They have many of the same emotions and dang-sure-as-hell-bombastic convictions as a lynch mob. What they do not have is deciding presence in that courtroom, thankfully. As the verdict shows.
Nor are they like dangerous mobs reacting in the wake of Rodney King trial. Or like the hi-class mob of officials, elites and professors convicting and crucifying the Duke Lacrosse team before a trial.
Back in the David Westerfield, June-August 2002, San Diego, California trial the same Justice-as-frenzy-drivers as Nancy Grace and other frenzy-sells media like O’Reilly, did drive home a guilt verdict. In that case there was some real evidence tying Westerfield to the corpse, but IMO it wasn’t beyond a reasonable doubt.
Such mob frenzy can have a sick or harmful result—it can truly be a hanging mob.
While our friends as a group here may seem close to a lynch mob in the frenzy of postings, they are not. It is blustering, gossip, etc etc. It is also in many ways a public good to so closely follow ANY trial, no matter the incentive.
It is most happy that the Jury acted honorably in bringing real meaning to the concept “guilty beyond a reasonable doubt”!
