(I know a couple of you are different, but) For the most part, you are all reacting like an emotional mob to the NYT’s spin, not doing your homework as you should as FReepers. In what universe do you live if you believe that the NYT is the least bit reliable???

If you want to know the truth - to see what Cornyn actually said - and how the NYT falsely spun it - Fox has the video up http://video.foxnews.com/#/v/1036571582001/sen-cornyn-on-debt-talks/?playlist_id=87485

The meat is around 7 minutes in.

With “Republicans” like John Cornyn, Texans need not criticize Republicans in other states who also cave to the Democrats.

Now is not the time for any tax “reform” or adjustments. If it is revenue neutral then what relevance does it have in reducing debt? Dems will play games and say its neutral when it isn’t. You can’t give them an inch or they take a mile.

As an objectivist, I see no problem with this if it the benefits outweigh the costs.

McLame cannot help himself - he has a compulsion to reach across the aisle every chance he gets. As Reagan said "There you go again.......""

God I wish we had got rid of him in 2008, we tried but with his left over $20 million there was no way Hayworth could counter that especially after McLame had JD thrown off the radio even before he had made a running decision.

I agree Cornyn, eliminate the loopholes in exchange for reduction in overall rate to insure revenue neutral and a less complicated and corrupt Tax code is a good and needed thing.

Cornyn has backstabbed the GOP since working
for Romney. The two of them constitute the
BACKSTABBER WING OF THE GOP.

Predictably and on cue, Republicans start to give ground. When all this is said and done, the “deal” will be tax hikes for those earning $150K +, in exchange for a promise from the dems to consider the possibility of future budget-cutting “targets.”

Demand a full repeal of Obamacare in exchange for a $500B hike in the debt ceiling.

That`d be my base position. Nothing less than full repeal.

Republicans should understand that ANY vote to enhance revenue (RINO’s and Liberals euphemism aka buzz words for raising taxes) will result in me voting for the “other guy”. I as a tuned-in and informed voter will not support anyone who does not fight for and vote to greatly reduce spending long before any tax increase is voted on. There is just way too much waste in our government spending to tolerate any more tax increases at any level of government.

Is anyone surprised at these two jokers giving cover to those who still aren't satisfied with how much of our income they steal from us? What's really funny, is next time Cornyn is up for re-election, I'll have Freepers telling me I just have to vote for him because he has the holy "R" beside his name.

Alternative headline: Two Republicans are suckered by the Democrats’ strategy.

Let’s quickly review history: the Dems jacked up spending to insane levels over the past two years and even in the last two years of the Bush Administration. So now we are supposed to accept that as the baseline and meet the Dems half way. Its a game they’ve been playing for years and always puts the GOP on the defensive. Republicans who buy into it are either stupid or comforable with the ever-expanding Welfare State.
