Criminals are also, more than frequently, cheapskates. I’m gonna guess that, having bought it, he didn’t want to waste it since it probably was an old point-to-point type that would have been good any time later. Reminds me of the first WTC Arab genius back in ‘93 who went back to the car rental place to get his $400 deposit back even tho he and friends had blown the van to bits.

That was true of the Green River Killer, Gary Ridgeway, too. He was “angry” about paying for sex with the prostitutes, so he made sure to get his dough back after he killed them.

This is NOT Barney Fife territory unless you're an urban, self-absorbed idiot.

Maybe not NOW (although that is still debatable), but in 1957? Most assuredly. Having a little trouble with the timeline?

Nope. Here's what you wrote:

That’s Barney Fife territory.

"That's" is a contraction of "that is". In other words, you said Sycamore "is" Barney Fife territory", not "was". The clear implication is you were being dismissive of the area today. And I corrected you.

So, apart from the fact that "that's" can also serve as a contraction for "that was" (small point), you chose to disregard that the context is what appears to be an incompetent police investigation in 1957.

In any case I'll gladly drive down to Sycamore on my lunch break, and meet you for a beer. We can then walk over to that lovely little courthouse and look for some old black and whites of Mayberry, er, Sycamore from 1957.

(It better be a two hour lunchbreak if we get that beer, though. I'll buy, you recommend to establishment . . . I'm not that familiar with Sycamore).

Please do not misunderstand. I'd live in Sycamore if I could, and if you do you are blessed.

I disregarded nothing. I knew the story timeline. But I also knew your comment was derogatory of Sycamore today. And I decided to point that out in the same snarky tone that was used. My bad, I guess noting the obvious.

I would argue that your “bad” is getting defensive about the obvious. Maybe Sycamore isn’t like the Andy Griffith Show at all. Maybe it’s more like Barney Miller.

Neither. There’s no reason to refer to a police department satirically, especially when unfamiliar with said department, or because of something that happened a half-century ago. Let’s leave it at that. Have a good one...
