The movement to draft Tommy Lee Jones to run as a Democrat to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison is most likely doomed to failure, but a new poll shows Jones might be a viable candidate.
Public Policy Polling released its survey today on the 2012 Senate race, and it shows Jones with the best favorable/unfavorable combo among possible candidates. It also shows he is within range of two Republican candidates, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and former Dallas mayor Tom Leppert, in head-to-head matchups.
Dewhurst beats him 43-39 percent, and Leppert by only 38-37.
"A Jones candidacy is probably a pipe dream for Democrats but the numbers do suggest he would have the potential to be a strong nominee." PPP director Tom Jensen says.
Sure, most of it is a name-recognition thing, but let's get this party started.

What does the PPP know? At this point polls just reflect name recognition. Most people in Texas even know who the current Solicitor General is much less previous Solicitor Generals. If you've ever met him in person, you know he's very impressive and would be a formidable candidate. Already Michael Williams decided to run for congress in one of the new congressional districts created this year after Ted Cruz raised over a million dollars in 10 weeks.
Given his hatred of press interviews, I can’t imagine he’d be a very interesting candidate.
It says a lot about Ted Cruz and Michael Williams that Williams is stepping aside to run for the House and allow Ted Cruz to be THE conservative for the KBH seat.
Really? Now, that’s interesting.
IIRC, Tommy Lee Jones was algore’s roommate at Harvard. No joke. He has no business being in the Senate. None.
Good info Paleo,
I’ll keep up on Mr. Cruz, Thanks
“At the 2000 Democratic National Convention, Tommy Lee Jones presented the nominating speech for his college roommate, Al Gore, as the Democratic Party’s nominee for President of the United States.”

Here's some more info from his profile on his current law firm's website.
Yes, but will he dress in black? That’s the important question here.
Whoever he is, he probably exists only in photoshopped documents.
“Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket, and refracted the light from Venus.”

A Hollywood idiot making 25 million a year can pay 80% in taxes and still eek out an existance on the remaining 5 million a year.
Very often it’s due to coming from money and going through private schools, which eases (used to ease) the admission to the college of their choice. David Duchovny was roomies with John-John Kennedy.
Cruz is going to be a strong candidate. No doubt about it.
And then a bright, shiny light went off, and I forgot the giant insect that ate Tommy Lee, and all that other stuff too.
The media is desperate to make Texas a two Party State-it isn’t!
Actually, the poll said he could beat Ted Cruz by 1 point with double-digit undecided. Once he’s tied to the national Democratic agenda, he loses.
