I certainly can’t see any reason for her to ruin the good thing she had going by turning on a john. She could have extorted money from him based on the incident, of course, but the involvement of the police and the criminal case made that impossible.

It doesn't fit if money from DSK was her motivation. She may have accepted money to cry rape, get DSK charged out outta the French presidential race. Follow the money.
But if DSK did indeed assault her, prosecutors in that neck of the woods need to man up and throw the book at him.
