Investigators: armed robbery victim shot suspect (SC)

FLORENCE, SC --
Investigators said an armed robbery victim shot the suspect in the parking lot of a store outside Florence early Thursday night.

It happened about 6:45 p.m. at the Dollar General at 2223 E. Howe Springs Road, Florence County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Nunn said in a press release issued Friday afternoon.

Investigators said the victim of an armed robbery, while sitting in his vehicle in the store parking lot, shot the suspect, who was wounded and fled from the scene, leaving his handgun behind, Nunn said.

The suspect later was found to have been taken to an area hospital in a privately owned vehicle, Nunn said. His condition isn't known, the captain said.

The victim, a holder of a valid Concealed Weapons Permit, wasn't injured, Nunn said.

The investigation continues, he said.

Too bad concealed carry doesn't prevent crime, this incident will skew the statistics.

Yeah, you just gotta' love South Carolina. Both the reporter and the Deputy Sheriff correctly identified the "victim" and the "suspect" in the armed robbery.

On another level, we can thank the victim that the suspect was easy to identify as the person who showed up at a local hospital with extra holes.

Um, the article sounds like the perp was trying to rob a person in the parking lot, not the store.

The comments at the link indicate that there has been a lot of drug activity at the store, possibly inside the store.

Maybe the perp intended to rob the guy in the parking lot so he could go inside and make a purchase. I expect that we'll learn more about this incident in the next few days.
