Senators Concerned By Photo ID Requirement To Vote
Sixteen Democratic senators want the Justice Department to look into whether voting rights are being jeopardized in states that require photo identification in order for people to vote.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sixteen Democratic senators want the Justice Department to look into whether voting rights are being jeopardized in states that require photo identification in order for people to vote.

The lawmakers wrote Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday to express concern that millions of voters do not have a government-issued ID - particularly older people, racial minorities, low-income voters and students.

The senators say the photo ID requirements have the potential to block millions of eligible people from exercising their right to vote.

Justice Department spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler said the department is monitoring, as it routinely does, this type of legislative activity in the states.

"We urge you to protect the voting rights of Americans by using the full power of the Department of Justice to review these voter identification laws and scrutinize their implementation," the senators said in the letter to the attorney general.

The 16 senators include Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, Michael Bennet of Colorado, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Patty Murray of Washington, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Benjamin Cardin of Maryland, Mark Begich of Alaska, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Herb Kohl of Wisconsin and Tom Udall of New Mexico.

"Many of these laws effectively disenfranchise thousands of eligible voters," Bennet said in a statement.

No kidding.
Let’s solve this by making the Social Security card be a photo ID.

Elderly are probably on SS and have a government issued SS card.

Also, even when my kids were born in late 90’s early 00’s we were required to fill out a SS# application before we even left the hospital. That should cover all the student age people, regardless of race or income.

It’s racist for them to assume that racial minorities and low income people are incapable of getting a SS card.

“...millions of voters do not have a government-issued ID - particularly older people, racial minorities, low-income voters, students, the dead, imprisoned felony criminals, the institutionalized insane, comatose hospital patients, farm animals, domestic animals, imaginary people, statistically extrapolated people, and smurfs and other cartoon characters, who regularly vote the Democrat party ticket.

The idea that people can REGISTER to vote without showing ID makes a mockery of the election system in this country.

Most of these dims don’t like the Photo ID requirement because it makes it very tough on one of their constituencies - dead people.

All motor vehicle departments can issue a ID card even if the person doesn’t want a drivers license. That’s one possible source for IDs.

But for the people who simply can’t travel outside their neighborhood to get their ID, the government can equip a mobile photo ID vehicle to go to each neighborhood so people can walk to the truck and get their IDs. They would need to bring documentation proving who they are, but it wouldn’t cost a fortune to set up such a program.

You know what is scary. All the stuff that keeps leading back to Chicago. I just read an article about the new IMF Chief who happened to work for Baker Mackenzie Law Firm in Chicago. That’s James Bakers firm. I believe his head office is in Houston. Never knew just how powerful Baker is.

I have never heard any of these people squawk about fees (aka poll tax) to get gun permit let alone having to get a permit.

They call their control over second amendment “safeguards”.

So people just think having to have ID a “safeguard” without fees.

Another second amendment arguement by leftists, you have to have a licene to drive a car, why not for a firearm.

So why not to vote?

Even without investigating, I would assure you that a student ID is a requirement at any university. Isn’t a student ID a “government-issued ID”?

I have to show my picture ID for all sorts of stuff.

Sure glad I’m not disenfranchised!

We passed a picture ID voter law recently here in South Carolina. The genesis was interesting. At first the RATS said, “The poor innocent voters can’t afford a picture ID.” So the legislature changed the law so we taxpayers would pay for free IDs for these people. But they had to go to the DMV to get the ID. Then the RATS complained, “These are poor disadvantaged people. They have no transportation to the DMV.”

What a joke.

The commie ‘RATS don’t want Americans finding out who is really voting for the commie ‘RATS. I feel that we Americans do have a right to know who keeps electing these maggots on the left. Americans sure as hell aren’t doing it.

Just how do these poor folks, minorities, eldery cash checks, get utilities, write checks at stores, cash IRS checks, without an ID of some sort.

You need identification for hundreds of things; no excuse not to have an ID for voting.
