House Republicans arent quite batting 1.000 on the sweeping promises they made when they grabbed control of the House last year.
But they sure are coming close.
Six months into the Republican majority, a closer look at the GOPs Pledge to America and its election-season promises shows the new majority has lived up to the agenda: The GOP passed a bill to repeal health care reform; it extended the Bush-era tax rates; it has been posting bills three days ahead of votes, as promised; and it has banned earmarks. House Republicans have also cut federal spending though not nearly as much as promised and theyve cut their own congressional budgets. They also voted to end further federal funding for abortion.
Speaker John Boehners majority has fallen short on a few fronts: Republicans havent always allowed the open debate in the House that they extolled, they havent yet replaced the health care law with a new plan or even proposed one and they will likely miss a self-imposed goal to pass appropriations bills before the August recess. Their promised oversight of the Obama administration remains a work in progress.
For now, Republicans can live with this batting average. Its been only six months.
Washington, D.C., remains a Democrat-run town, Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said. But here in the House, were working every day to keep our promises, to listen to the American people and advance their agenda.
Some of this success stems from the artful way the Pledge to America was written: There were very few guarantees of getting certain laws enacted; rather, the GOP promised votes on party priorities and to change things they had singular control over.

Not sure if the pathetic $38 Billion in spending cuts lives up to the Pledge to America...
I believe the New Republicans are doing their best. It’s the old RINO’s that are sitting on their collective asses.
In 2012 we need to get rid of many of them.
Before people start whining about how they haven’t done enough, consider how little you can actually do when you only control the House, but not the Senate or the White House.
It’s like gas prices....goes up .20 cents, drops .2....goes up .40 and drops .10.....Goes up $1 and drops .12 cents and on and on..
Good cop bad cop...If they were all perceived as bad guys, their game wouldn’t last long.
The current battle over the debt ceiling will separate the true conservatives from the RINOs.
If the GOP caves on taxes, they will have broken their pledge.
What you are witnessing is the Romneytization of the Tea Party. It has been signaled by Rove declaring he is not for any particular candidate. i take this to men Romney is their guy this time. Prepare for being sold down the river. They are very clever.
I’d like to see them live up to their oaths.
Romney isn’t winning likely to win anything, anymore than Rudy did last time. He’s the default candidate this time if no one else steps up to take the leadership role. Even if he is nominated, the tea party isn’t going to change. We would just have to make him move to the right to win.
My vote helped send one of the new freshmen to the House. He joined the wimps in the embarrassment of the budget bill, letting the Democrats have their way.
If they cave and do taxes on the deficit bill, they can watch me sit out the next election and figure all politicians love taxing me.
