I wonder if expansion or contraction of the building is the problem or something in the Sill is corroding to put pressure on the edge of the glass. Or whatever little pads the glass is sitting on broke down to their is nothing left to the point of glass on metal and a little vibration on the edge and pow the glass breaks.

I knew it before I read it. Saw the headline and thought to myself. Bet the glass was made in china. Sure enough, it was.
We arrived home one afternoon to discover that our entire sliding glass door was missing. It had broken in an odd way. There were no large pieces and all the small pieces were about the same size, roughly half inch square.
Since this was an entrance door we needed it replaced immediately. We called Dothan Glass and they came out within an hour and replaced it inexpensively and quickly.
One of the workers told us that tempered glass actually did that every now and then and it always breaks the same way.
