My household was too poor to afford such luxuries when I was growing up. To get a store bought ‘jelly roll’ was an astonishing treat. I had a business in fifth -seventh grade (1956-58) making oatmeal raisin cookies and selling them at the local grocery. Used my grandmother’s kitchen and her recipe. The last week I baked before moving to Arlington, VA to finish the eight grade, I made twenty three dozen to fill orders placed at the grocer’s. I made a profit of thirty eight cents per dozen, if I made more than eight dozen at a time. I ate one cookie per batch, to make sure of quality. I thought I had a luxury dessert when I made those cookies. They were approximately the size of a woman’s palm (~3 inches in diameter).
I love you.
