Riyadh will build nuclear weapons if Iran gets them, Saudi prince warns

A senior Saudi Arabian diplomat and member of the ruling royal family has raised the spectre of nuclear conflict in the Middle East if Iran comes close to developing a nuclear weapon.

Prince Turki al-Faisal, a former Saudi intelligence chief and ambassador to Washington, warned senior Nato military officials that the existence of such a device "would compel Saudi Arabia … to pursue policies which could lead to untold and possibly dramatic consequences".

He did not state explicitly what these policies would be, but a senior official in Riyadh who is close to the prince said yesterday his message was clear.

"We cannot live in a situation where Iran has nuclear weapons and we don't. It's as simple as that," the official said. "If Iran develops a nuclear weapon, that will be unacceptable to us and we will have to follow suit."

Officials in Riyadh said that Saudi Arabia would reluctantly push ahead with its own civilian nuclear programme. Peaceful use of nuclear power, Turki said, was the right of all nations.

Every time Izslam starts making gains in the world without sponsoring outright invasions of other countries, they get all uppity and start killing each other by the millions. Why would things be any different now that they can slaughter whole cities with a single weapon than it was when it sometimes took them weeks to kill all the civilians they didn't want as slaves?

The religion of Satan worships death. Since many countries in the Mooslim world rely on imports to even feed the elites much less the masses, the best source of victims is fellow Mooslims and they'll get around to mass slaughter before much longer.

IMHO, Saudi Arabia already has nuclear weapons since the late 1980s when they purchased over 50 CSS-2 medium range ballistic missiles from Pakistan. CSS-2 missiles are totally worthless as conventional warhead missiles. They were designed to carry nukes. In addition, there is alleged evidence that more than just missiles were purchased from Pakistan and certain technicians from another country are actively maintaining said missiles for the Saudis. Of course, Saudis would never work directly with such evil items.

Just IMHO.

I'd be shocked if they didn't. As far as I can tell, when Iran went nuts and we didn't back the Shah they went nuclear because they knew our support could ebb and flow. Something they never believed until Jimmah Carter got in office.

Wrote an analytical paper in 1/2010 on Saudi Arabia seeking nukes if Iran acquires nuclear weapon capabilities: http://www.lamp-method.org/eCommons/Bulls.pdf

The Saudis were also fearful of Iraq though out the 1980s and 1990s. Their nuke ability (from sources unavailable now) was actually targeted at Baghdad. I read an interesting book during that time entitled The Gold of Exodus where the nuke facility south of Riyadh was mentioned. This coupled with the worthless conventional warhead CSS-2 (Silkworm), the huge amount of money they had, an exercise conducted by the Israelis against an “interesting target in the 90s,” and there close connection with Pakistan and China could lead one to lessen such a shock. I also have personal reasons to not be shocked.

I have great faith in Israel.
I’ll hang it on the brains, they created and finished the original nuclear bomb. Guaranteed they have new and far superior technologies. The Saudis should go shopping in Israel or form an allegiance/

You are probably right. It makes no sense to state that if your hostile neighbor gets nukes, that you will start a nuclear program in response. The Saudi’s obviously realize that Iran has been working on this for decades. So the Saudi nuclear program had to have been started years ago to even possibly get deployed in time. Or as some have suggested, they bought them and price was not an object.

And there are foreign technicians maintaining them (CSS-2s). The CSS-2s use a very nasty liquid propellant. A person refueling one of these missiles must be dressed in an airtight environmental hazard suit much like an astronaut’s suits. NO Saudis doing this kind of work and last I heard was that the techs were from an Asian country.

But then that is what some have suggested.

Does anybody know if the Saudis pay us for all of the military protection that we provide them?
