PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (MarketWatch) The June 15 Stanley Cup hockey rampage has accurately been called the most-documented riot in history and many of those who took part in it have felt not just the wrath of police and public officials, but also that of Facebook vigilantes who have tracked down many of the culprits, and posted their names and home addresses.
Its been fascinating to follow whats been happening up in Vancouver following the drunken riots after the disturbances most famous picture that of the supposedly kissing couple (the guy was actually consoling his roughed-up girlfriend amidst riot police) has faded from memory.
Thousands of other riot pictures have shown the impressive power of social and digital media good and bad in tracking down the drunk knuckleheads (and probably a few G20-type anarchists) who trashed the lovely citys downtown after the Vancouver Canucks lost their climactic hockey game. The riot aftermath is also proving what one caller on Vancouver radio talk station CKNW caller said last week: The internet is forever.
If youve been identified rightly or wrongly as one of the rioters in the hundreds of cellphone pictures posted online by outraged Vancouverites since the June 15 ugliness you could apply for a job in 20 years and all the employer has to do is Google your name. If youre in one of those photos, youre out of luck, correctly noted the Vancouver caller. Current employers of alleged and confessed rioters are also feeling the publics wrath (more on this below).

A new corollary to “an armed society is a polite society?”
Let’s see when the social media will out the flash mob rioters.
The author goes a long way to take a cheap shot at the US.
Nothing will happen. I;m from that sh(thole city and it’s a lib city as well. The reason why the cops just allowed the rioters to run amok is because back in 1994, the VPD received a lot of backlash of trying to control the 1994 riots when we lost to the NY Rangers.
So the same keystone cops aka Vanc PD, just literally allowed the crowd to destroy half the downtown core. It’s not a question of outing the rioters, it’s a question of what the joke of a justice system will do. It just proves once again that canadians are superior in smugness, that there is nothing to do in that city and that it will happen again with another loss in the Stanley Cup. Third time’s the charm for the “world class city” of vancouver.
Its Canada - no one is responsible for anything.
Unless of course you put plastic into your compost bin - then the apparatchiks will get you.
But, you do notice that said author does live in the US.
It always seems strange to me that people can have such contempt for their country.
