Ahh ole’ Tom wants ‘American Girl’ to only be remembered solely from ‘Silence of the Lambs’; a charming story of a transgendered, depraved, serial killer with another depraved, serial killer on the ‘inside’ (cellblock hell) whose aim was to break out and eat human liver.
Shoot, I can understand how linking the song with Michele Bachmann might really ruin that memory.
You’re making a huge ASSumption.
Do you know that Petty didn’t sell the rights to that song to some public domain entity?
From the article:
It's not even the first bump of Bachmann's campaign: during her announcement speech, the Tea Party supporter confused the birthplace of actor John Wayne with that of serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
I thought it was determined that Wayne's parents had lived in Waterloo, as did GAcy for a time - but that Gacy had been born in Chicago.......
If my recall is correct (often doubtful) than these "reporters" are the ones who are even more confused than they claim Bachmann to be.
not funny
not funny
Who is this Petty Tom, and what does he do? /s
Do you know that Petty didnt sell the rights to that song to some public domain entity?
Prove it; you twit !
More evidence that Michelle Bachmann is evil incarnate! Oh, the humanity!
...Tom Petty tells Michele Bachmann to stop using his music...
His last name explains it all. Michele, find another song and let this cr@p have his cr@ppy song. Who needs him or his music. Another whinny libertard.
Petty indeed. Washed up has-been, goofy looker with little vocal talent who’s best days were 3 decades ago.
Hey Tom! REPUBLICANS BUY CD’S TOO! Idiot
If he's not, he should be.
I’m disappointed that she was even using the whiny little snot’s music to start with. He sings like a 13 y.o.
Wonder if Ted Nugent has an appropriate song? I have a feeling Aerosmith may be open to their music being used by a republican, too. There are other options. Either way, the people running the campaign need to get it OK’d by the artist. Who’d want be backed by a song of an artist that obviously is against what you stand for?
So are you telling me that Tom is really a Dick? Who would have known. LOL
No. The copyright law allows anybody to play, as long as they pay the standard fee; which is usually "per performance." The term is "compulsory license."
-- What rights does a song writer or recording "artist" have to restrict the use of music that he/she has sold recording of to the public? --
In musical works, the artist is entitled to be compensated by those who cover or play the composition.
I got news for Mr. Petty. If Ms. Bachman is using a legally obtained copy of the song she has the right to play it in public all day long as long as she pays the associated fees for doing such. And Petty has no say in the matter whatsoever.
Then again, she launched her campain in the spirit of John Wayne Gacy so maybe it is an appropriate theme . . . . .
On a related note, what is it with Christian Conservative candidates (not to mention talk show hosts)and Rock and Roll music? Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll are a good fit. Christianity, Conservatism and Rock and Roll are not, IMHO.
