Better to specify humane means of slaughter. There’s no question that ritual Jewish and Muslim slaughter are often cruel in practice.
The animal’s torso should be restrained and supported, and the slaughter out of sight and sound from the waiting animals.
Hoisting a living steer by its hind legs, or wrestling a goat to the ground and cutting its throat in the presence of the other goats, IS cruel.
People who support kosher slaughter like to maintain that God ordained it because unconsciousness is instant and death is humane. Well, what proceeds unconsciousness and death is often not humane. Modern practices can improve that, and still be consistent with kosher slaughter.
So you’re saying the need to be humane to animals outweighs the right to practice one’s faith in accordance with traditions and conscience ? I rather think not. . .
