Pyongyang has told the North Korean people that the nation will have achieved its aim of becoming "a great, prosperous and powerful nation" in 2012, which marks the 100th anniversary of the founder of the reclusive state, Kim Il-sung.

In addition, Kim Jong-il will turn 70 in February and the "Dear Leader" hopes to be able to transfer his power and an economically stronger nation to his son and heir-apparent, Kim Jong-Un.

Reports in South Korea indicated that the government in Pyongyang on Monday ordered all universities to cancel classes until April of next year. The only exemptions are for students who will be graduating in the next few months and foreign students.

Not saying that some real life work experience doesn't do some pampered college kids some good....But didn't the Khmer Rouge try this "Back to the Farm" stuff in the 70's?? Didn't work out to well....Proof that Commies are insane! They keep going back to the same bag of tricks that history has shown to be failures time after time.

My first thought is that dissent is starting to foment in NK.

I have been hearing lately they can’t even feed the army. Where does rebellion often start? The universities. They are separating the students out to keep them from coming together.

I think the Chinese did this in the mid 1960’s at the height of the “Cultural Revolution.”

I must say a vision of 20,000 Ivy League students working in the fields (with North Korean overseers) for a year evokes a great deal of happiness.

I know a Chinese lady that survived the Cultural Revolution. She was sent out at 13 to join a labor battalion to dig big irrigation projects. In later years she became a classical musician and moved to the U.S. After she married my friend, she wasted no time digging up the whole back yard in a day and putting in a garden. He was astounded how much soil she had moved around. She casually told him, “I learned how to dig under Chairman Mao”.

The students will now be available for the army to invade South Korea. The North Korean regime knows that the 0bama administration will not defend South Korea.

Oh, no! How will North Koreans learn “How to Direct Traffic that isn’t There,” or “How to goose-step for three Miles With a Weapon that Doesn’t work,” or “Running a Supermarket that has Nothing to Sell,” or “Butt-kissing for the Government Official who doesn’t want to Wake-up in a Work Camp,” or “Maintaining Old Machinery that hasn’t Worked since 1953,” and all the other educational paths open to the population?

I think it would be a great idea to put all of the ivory towered, pinheaded, tenured, liberal Marxist professors in the fields picking lettuce for 4 years minimum.

a lifetime would be better, but the illegals need jobs...
