The state defines marriage only for those for whom the state is their church.
The real problem is that it has the force of law for everyone.
Multiply the number of gay couples wanting to get married in NY by $40.00. add in champagne, carriage rides, shopping at Bergdorf’s, going to all the clubs and other honeymooning expenses, and NY makes out pretty well.
NYC cares about gay marriage like they care about anything else. If it makes them money while eroding society they are all for it.
