What I refer to as “Detroit on the Delaware” has had a death rattle for decades now. The middle class have been fleeing Philly only to be replaced by illegals, gays, and urban hipsters They've survived off of the generosity of the taxpayers of the Commonwealth for far too long. It's becoming very obvious that Mayor Nutter and his police chief are losing control and the situation is devolving into mayhem.

They've survived off of the generosity of the taxpayers of the Commonwealth for far too long.

With the Marcellus shale play benefitting the rural areas of Pennsylvania, the urban criminals in the state assembly (working in conjunction with environmentalists and the media) are trying to impose a severance tax on the drillers.

All funding would flow into the general fund where it would then be funnelled into Philadelphia.

A few years ago, the liberals tried to impose tolls on Interstate 80 (which runs through rural Pennsylvania) with the money going to subsidize mass transit projects in Philly and Pittsburgh.

Philly is a leach upon this state.
