Whitey Bulger traveled while a fugitive, records show
Los Angeles Times ^ | June 27, 2011 | Andrew Blankstein

Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger kept hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash hidden behind the walls of his Santa Monica apartment and traveled –- sometimes in disguise and armed -- to Boston, Las Vegas and Mexico to purchase pharmaceuticals, according to court records made public Monday in Boston.

...FBI agents are quoted in the documents as saying Bulger later admitted traveling from time to time outside the Santa Monica area. “Bulger waived his Miranda rights and admitted that he had been a frequent traveler as a fugitive. Bulger acknowledged visiting Las Vegas on numerous occasions to play the slots and claimed he won more than he lost. Bulger also admitted traveling to San Diego and then crossing over into Tijuana to purchase medicines,” court records say.

Bugler also told the FBI he once traveled to Boston “armed to the teeth” because he “had to take care of some unfinished business.” No further details on that trip were available.

Usually as ignored as his lack of documentation,
Obama lived on Winter Hill, Whitey’s home turf.

Perhaps Whitey has documents on Obama
and could not be touched until the timing was
needed (like Osama).

Considering he's looking at the rest of his life in an 8x10 cell, imprisoned with people who he helped put there, I don't think he's that amused.

I understand what you are saying, but there are two schools of thought on that. The other school says he has been protected all along, and will continue to be protected.

However!! Considering how ready he has always been to rat out someone else, maybe the time is coming that he gets ratted on.

I am the last one to know the answer.

He’s eighty-one years old without too much time left. He and the galpal have oddles of cash but at some time he or she will need serious medical care. Who pays doctors or hospitals with cash? It’s basically the end of the undetected road.
It was fun while it lasted.

That's a bit of a reach, since Whitey was gone as of 1995.

A couple of months ago, before he was caught, I went to a Howie Carr book signing and read both of his books on the Bulgers. The first one, "The Brothers Bulger" focuses on the parallel careers of Billy and Whitey, while the second, "Hitman", tells the Whitey story from the viewpoint of one of his compadres, one Johnny Martorano. They are great reads!

Carr did a lot of digging, and probably got at all of the main connections. Obama wasn't powerful during Whitey's ascendancy. Whitey's connections with the FBI are very well documented, as is Billy's use of the MA state senate and later his UMass appointment as a personal patronage fief.

Whitey and Billy were very busy guys... I doubt that a student twit like Obama figured into their money-making and influence peddling schemes, but if it had been a few years later, it might have been a different story.

"That's a bit of a reach, since Whitey was gone as of 1995. "

Hi.

First, Obama was on Winter Hill from 1988 and 1991
while he was a student so there was temporal overlap.

Second, NEVER underestimate the ability of a Triple Eagle
Billy Bulger and his henchmen/PIs/lawyers/bagmen
to get documents on the unDocumented One.

I agree there was temporal overlap. However, Obama was just another dips**t law student with community organizing tendencies. Why would he have attracted any notice from either Billy, who was moving on to UMass, or Whitey, who was raking in the dough as a major crime figure?

I don't think so.

He has too much information, which will guarantee him comfortable living in the joint. In fact, he'll be looked up to by most.

In fact, knowing Whitey, some of that information is likely hidden, only to be revealed upon his death. I'd bet he has already told people this.

I am re-reading Paddy Whacked. It’s basically about the Irish mob activities in the US. Quite interesting.

http://www.amazon.com/Paddy-Whacked-Untold-American-Gangster/dp/0060590033/ref=sr_1_cc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309217748&sr=1-1-catcorr

The American mob has long been seen as run by Italians and their henchmen. Edgar-nominee English (Born to Kill) sets the record straight, emphasizing that Irish ingenuity first established the mob in the U.S. Close to two million Irish inundated the American Northeast in the aftermath of the Irish famine of the 1840s. “[T]he formation of a gang,” writes English, “carried with it the whiff of a noble gesture,” and the Irish personality—full of resentment, rebellion, suspicion and clannishness—mixed with poverty proved to be perfect for this new way of life. Prohibition—the high point for the Irish mob in America—first was viewed by the Irish as a WASP attack on their way of life, and eventually as a way to get rich. But Prohibition was also the beginning of the end of super-Irish gangsters. English covers the bootlegging escapades of Joseph P. Kennedy and—number one on the FBI Most Wanted List—Boston’s Whitey Bulger. But there are also colorful details about the likes of “Mad Dog” Coll, “Two Gun” Crowley and mayors Walker of New York and Curley of Boston. This is an intense, erudite yet sometimes horrifying account of violent Celtic criminals who make the Dead End Kids look like choirboys. 16 pages of b&w photos. Agent, Nat Sobel. (Feb. 15)

Correct. Whitey will receive rock star status at MCI Cedar Junction or at whatever venue they choose to warehouse him for his remaining time on earth.

Thanks... very interesting, indeed. In addition to being resentful, rebellious, suspicious and clannish, the Irish do not hesitate to be brutal.

I have half-Irish ancestry and have studied up a bit myself..:)
