Tea Party Leaders Look to Bachmann, Paul and Perry (no support for Palin, boos for Romney)
The New York Times ^ | 2011-06-27 | Kate Zernike

Who is the Tea Party candidate for president?

If a gathering of about 100 Tea Party leaders in Washington on Monday gives any indication, it’s Representative Michele Bachmann (who just announced her candidacy), with Representative Ron Paul and Gov. Rick Perry vying for a close second (and probably edging her out on fervency of support).

Leaders from Tea Party groups in about 40 states gathered in the Washington offices of FreedomWorks, the libertarian advocacy group that cultivated the Tea Party movement.

(snip)

A (completely unscientific) voice-vote straw poll of the (possibly unrepresentative) group, conducted by reporters, found almost no support and even a few groans for Sarah Palin; loud boos drowning out a handful of cheers for Mitt Romney; nays for Jon M. Huntsman Jr.; and support but dismissals that “he can’t win” for Herman Cain.

(snip)

On a voice-vote run-off (equally unscientific) among the apparent top three contenders, Mrs. Bachmann, a Minnesota Republican, seemed to do best among women in the room, while Mr. Perry did best among men, and Mr. Paul, also of Texas, did best among younger people in the room.

(snip)

Loretta Malander, a Tea Party activist from Oak Hill, Va., praised Mrs. Bachmann much the way supporters of Ms. Palin described her in 2008: “She’s one of us,” she said.”We can connect and relate with her in the way we were raised, our values. We feel like she understands Middle America. She’s not one of those elites who look down on us.”

i agree about the Tea Party.
...and anyone the New York Times
calls the leader of the Tea Party,
ain’t.
(and anyone who CLAIMS to be the leader,
doesn’t understand the Tea Party!)

...in fact, i want a conservative candidate,
that Rove, and the GOP establishment, DON’T like.
(i’m not picky. i’ll take anyone who isn’t a rhino,
who Rove doesn’t like, and who is hardline for small government, secure borders, and pro-Israel.)

i like Cain best so far. but i’m still open.

All a matter of perception. People who *want* to be offended will be offended, no matter what.

Paul? RON Paul?

Truly our system is wonderful, allowing even fruitloop idiot kooks to run for office.

This is # what 5 or 6 he has thrown his hat into the ring. The guy just doesn't get it.

Some Ron Bots say they are tea partiers. They tried to put up this woman here in TX for governor without telling anyone. She lost big time when connected to 9/11 truthers. Ron Bots act as a group only. You will find them disrupting rather than helping a lot of meetings especially state election meetings.

Yes being called names is offending, what is it with you, you are denying your own posts on this thread and you are ignoring the substance of our posts to you.

These are straw polls?

Three days ago the AP-Gfk poll showed Palin as first in favorability among all GOP candidates with republicans

Twelve days ago The Economist/YouGov poll had her at first on the 2012 list as nominee choice.

Eighteen days ago the Reuters/IPSOS poll had Palin at first of the 2012 list as nominee choice.

Indeed. Sometimes I long for the days when we were ignored, laughs a little. Now the GOP looks to co-opt us, the media looks to embarrass us, and worst of all, we have “leaders” who would kill to get in front of a camera or microphone in order to speak for us.

Sigh.

Come on folks, we have a country to save here, so sorry to report - it is NOT about you.

Again - May God give us strength and wisdom, and raise up patriots and statesmen, (and women ;).
Tatt

Can you imagine the frustration he must feel to have never been able to win an election outside of his little district, never to be a Governor, or a Senator.

I guess he made a pretty good living campaigning though.

Right, you have the photos you like, and a thread with ron paul in it. I have the photos I like, you have posted your favorite photoshop, and I’m on FR at the same time you are, so, it’s required for me to post them. For the first 49 posts though, I was thinking about going with the Perry forced vaccination stuff.

Perry’s vaccination order still stoking fires

AUSTIN — Blowback continued at the Capitol on Wednesday over Gov. Rick Perry’s order mandating
that schoolgirls be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted disease linked to cervical cancer.

Critics rip Perry’s vaccine mandate
Governor rejects opponents’ calls to reverse order

AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry stood firm Monday against a political firestorm generated by his
order that sixth-grade girls be inoculated against a sexually transmitted virus linked to cervical cancer.

Social conservatives from Texas to Washington called on Perry to reverse his order making
Texas the first state to require the vaccine, saying the mandate makes sex seem permissible
and that parents should be the ones to decide whether to immunize their daughters.
And several Texas lawmakers expressed outrage at Perry for circumventing the legislative process.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/26/us/26texas.html

The vaccine, Gardasil, is manufactured by Merck, which was represented in Austin by the
lobbyist Mike Toomey, who was chief of staff for Mr. Perry from 2002 to 2004.

The Tea Party has no leadership, just people who have appointed themselves.

These people can go crap in their hats.

Bachman has a long way to go before I can vote for her. I stand with Sarah until I hear her say she definitely isn’t running.
