RE :”Thanks. I can see where this is a difficult issue for candidates. Realistically, how do we find and ship out 12 million (or more) people from not only Mexico, but other countries as well. We can’t even keep up with people who overstay student visas. Where would we hold 12 million people before they are sent back? Do we fly them, send them on buses? How many buses would it take to 12 million people back? Do we just drop them over the border? I don’t see how we have room to put them all in prison/jail. I just don’t see a realistic solution.

Yep, that is exactly the argument the pro-amnesty crowd uses after they are cornered, first they deny it is amnesty they want, next they argue that we have no choice except amnesty. We saw this over and over in 2006-2007 and even here.

No one has suggested such a massive effort, for one thing voting districts get more congressional seats and representation based on ‘residents’ and $$$ so many cities have welcomed illegals and protect them.

The federal government could stop giving taxpayer goodies to illegals. Stop the food stamps. Stop the aid to dependent children. Deport them when they show up at hospitals or schools or even to report crimes. And lastly congress could pass a law that takes away automatic citizenship to children of illegals without a constitutional amendment. Diplomats children do NOT get automatic citizenship, why should illegals? It is illegal for states like Maryland to give special college tuition breaks to illegals but they do it anyway. Why? There is no penalty in the federal law.

But the next time the debate comes up the idea of cutting off the goodies will be ignored, and the straw man argument of massive deportation will be suggested again.

As to Palin’s response, nobody knows what the hell she was talking about, she obviously wanted to dodge the question.

In many cases, illegal immigrants can also receive emergency medical treatment, short-term government disaster relief and immunization against communicable diseases. Their children can attend public schools.

States may provide other benefits, such as driver’s licenses and worker’s compensation, In Kansas, for example, illegal immigrants can get tuition breaks at state universities and colleges.

And yet, estimates are that several million illegal immigrants — more precise figures are impossible to calculate, because illegal immigrants typically live under the radar — actively shun such support, fearing that government agents will swoop in and whisk them away.

So are you saying we need to have ICE agents posted at hospials and social services offices and when someone comes in who doesn’t have their “papers”, they are immediately arrested and after months waiting for hearings, do we put them on buses to the border and release them? We need to think this through. Do we bar children from attending school? I just don’t see how this plan is workable. It sounds good but it isn’t realistic.
