Bachmann Launches Presidential Campaign
Fox News ^ | 27 June 2011 | Staff

Rep. Michele Bachmann, stressing her Iowa roots and appealing directly to Tea Party voters, came out swinging Monday as she formally launched her campaign for president.

Buoyed by a strong showing in several recent polls, the Minnesota congresswoman cast her campaign as the voice for "constitutional conservatives" looking for a government that lives within its means while giving the private sector the room to grow. She launched a broadside against President Obama for racking up too much debt while stimulating too little job growth and vowed to make him a "one-term president."

"We cannot afford four more years of Barack Obama," she declared, later adding: "We can win in 2012 and we will win."

In her announcement, Bachmann described a special bond with Iowa, the nation's leadoff caucus state. She held the kickoff in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa, and called herself a "descendent of generations of Iowans," saying the state is where she learned "everything I needed to know." She also appealed to another vital primary constituency, calling herself part of the Tea Party movement and defending it as a cross-section of Republicans, independents and disaffected Democrats.

I don’t think you understand Federalism. Bachmann supports the right of states to make laws withour Federal intervention, as set forth in the Constitution. She also thinks that he Constitution should be amended. The Federal government is not the Constitution, but an implement of it. State’s rights exist within the Constitution.

I'm still scratchin' my bald head...

In order to amend the constitution, states have their say. Neither side of your argument is mutually exclusive and is in fact, what a strict constitutionalist would say.

Bachmann can handle the media

In the spirit of John Wayne Gacy, I presume?

Yes, that would be an exception via Palin’s Super-Star status, as witnessed campaigning with Senator McCain

I'm sorry that you fell for a MSM lie. Had she voted to "restrict funds but authorize the war", which the bill called for, she would own it.

If you are going to discuss the news you should first know what you are talking about.

There were two bill's. One to authorize the war and then a second to cut funding.

They are identical politically. The only difference is that the former Reagan campaign directer Rollins thinks Bachmann is more astute for the job of running for POTUS.It’s politics they need to get over it. No one is stopping Palin. The Palin supporters on this forum need a fall guy because there candidate is obviously not strong enough to stand on her own?If Palin does not gain traction or win it will always be Bachmann’s fault. On the other side of the coin- If Bachmann does not gain further traction and win it is no other candidates fault.

This field is far from set in stone. By my count, there are 6 additional names being floated as potential candidates. The last Gallup poll I saw (and you know polls are very popular here) reflected over 50% of registered Republicans were not satisfied with the current field of candidates.

I wouldn't be too concerned about splitting a vote until the end of this summer when we know who all the players are.

The tea party Republicans overwhelmingly oppose President Barack Obama's decision to participate in the NATO-led operation in Libya without consulting Congress. But 27 of the caucus' 59 members voted against a GOP-led bill to strip federal dollars from part of the American effort there.

The group's chairwoman, Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, was among those who voted no. The GOP presidential hopeful said she opposed the bill because it stopped short of halting all United States spending on the conflict.

"There was an opportunity today to limit funding to a Libyan operation, but I could not support it because it does not go far enough. Funds must be fully cut off to the president's involvement in Libya," she said in a statement.

“Do early polls really matter?”

Only if they have Sarah in the lead.

What is the difference between Bachmann and Palin?

Palin lost me when she promised to illegals if they registered, (July 9, 2010) "immigration reform we're going to be able to provide, and that is to somehow allow to you work. And that's not the first time she has advocated amnesty.

Sounds like the same "path to citizenship" Kennedy, Reid, McCain, and Bush wanted in 2007.

O'REILLY: No, we can't make it easy, but they're here. And we can't starve them to death. And if they can't work, if they don't have a green card to work, they're going to be hosed. I mean, they got to pay rent, they got to buy groceries…
PALIN: Well…
O'REILLY: …this, that and the other thing. So this is where it gets very complicated, governor. You know, it gets very, very complicated…
PALIN: No.
O'REILLY: …because you are rewarding bad behavior. You're letting them stay in the United States. And they came in illegally.
PALIN: Then let's keep it -- then we won't complicate it anymore. Let's keep it simple. And let's say no, if you are here illegally, and if you don't follow the steps that at some point through immigration reform we're going to be able to provide, and that is to somehow allow to you work. If you're not going to do that, then you will be deported. You will be gone.

All’s my tag line shows is that I am open. I will defend all conservative candidates against attack. I hate no one but I come realclose to hate regarding Obama. If it were Bachmann supporters on here talking crap about Palin I would be doing the same thing. My goal is not Palin you’re correct, my goal is conservatives getting Obama fired. And I will say again, no one is stopping Palin.
